      ... American girl working for the peace corpse. She could speak Malgache fluently. She had been living here for a year and was to stay another. The place where she is staying is a village without electricity so she is pretty much cut off from the outside world. No generators either. To get electricity she has to go 20km to the next town.       ... to eat but most of the restaurants were closed or to far away.

      In the morning we had breakfast at a bakery and at about 9am we got picked up by a land rover defender (without windows and working air conditioning) and a modern Toyota hilux with both of the things that the land rover didn't have.

      ... there was a karate class taking place in our hotel - their 'dojo' was the poolside area, so hard floor rather than wood, and no fans or air conditioning (other than the natural version!). It's a different style from the one we do, but looked and sounded pretty similar overall apart from the longer lower stances ('le deplacement' apparently), and it was funny to hear the mixture of the French instruction, then the Sensei telling people to do a mae ...

      ... from another tree. We had a gentle hike around this lovely forested mountain reserve, that's considerably cooler than Diego. We saw several waterfalls, the smallest chameleon species in Madagascar, butterflies, birds, as well as several lemurs way up high in the tree tops. It was slightly windy, which they apparently don't like, so they were well hidden in the branches. We eventually spotted a few crowned lemurs closer to the ground, ...
