... What's wrong with a little more beach? Today we went to the "mer emeraude" (emerald sea) on a boat excursion to do some snorkeling, sightseeing and general sun catching. Probably too much sun. Yes the water is that blue. Unbelievably blue. So blue it's crazy. ... Another short flight took us all the way to the most northern city of Diego Suarez. It is the fifth largest city in Madagascar and has the second largest bay in the world behind Rio de Janeiro. Our new abode is more of a guesthouse with shared kitchen and facilities. It overlooks the large bay. We will stay here another day, and then go east along the bay to a quieter beach ...

... American girl working for the peace corpse. She could speak Malgache fluently. She had been living here for a year and was to stay another. The place where she is staying is a village without electricity so she is pretty much cut off from the outside world. No generators either. To get electricity she has to go 20km to the next town. I could tell she'll be ready to go home after the second year. We stopped for dinner at a hotely (local restaurant). ...

... to eat but most of the restaurants were closed or to far away.

In the morning we had breakfast at a bakery and at about 9am we got picked up by a land rover defender (without windows and working air conditioning) and a modern Toyota hilux with both of the things that the land rover didn't have.

About 4 hours later we arrive at the Mariarano conservation area in the middle of the Madagascan wilderness, we were ...
