    ... a magnificent mosaic feature over and around the alter. The mosaics survived the troubled times including WWII but not all the Greek marble remained in place. A number of churches were built in the area and the monks abandoned the Basilica for some time. In this time, the marble was removed/stolen. Marble from some of the other churches was recovered from their ruins and installed in the church.

    ... is the hot tap. There are a couple of other features in the room. There is hand basin, a bidet and a toilet. You got it, the water from the shower gets sprayed around the room. We have taken the toilet paper out as it would have been wet after two showers and the is no way a towel would stay dry if hung in the bathroom whilst showering. Isn't life interesting!     ... must admit that it was a bit scary as we were on a very narrow bike lane.

    We stumbled on Piazza Roma and found the Tourist Info. Only one problem, it didn't open til 9:30am. Wasn't really a problem as we found a cafe with free WiFi and settled in.
