They had a delightful breakfast and really enjoyed the fresh orange juice. They went for a walk by the sea organ again and meet a couple from the Black Country.
It really was getting too hot already so they went into the shade of the narrow streets. After looking at some Roman remains,they found the best ice cream yet to cool off.
Back to the hotel for coffee and a sleep for Ed, it is hard being the birthday boy! ...

Opatija was developed as a resort town
for the aristocracy of the Hapsburg empire so it has had wonderful
public works projects along the foreshore. This includes the
Lungomare, a 13 km long elegant public walkway along the shoreline.
Everywhere else the seashore is alienated by private dwellings and
massive hotels that like to make their bit of seashore ...
... It had been cooked on a hotplate
with lightly cooked garlic and parsley on top. Quite oily but really
good olive oil. Wonderful fresh ingredients cooked simply and well.
A memorable meal. It appeared that they did not do coffee and sweets
just the fish. It was pretty economical too at around A$45 for the 2
of us with a half litre of wine.
After our wonderful lunch we meandered
... even looking out, and it was clear sky with views down all the way and we flew over Venice and, and...grrrr. We had to wait a long time for our bags to come off. Then the transfer from Gatwick south to the north station to get the train into London proper. Half an hour to Victoria station. A man told me to go to a small news stand to buy an Oyster card, good for unlimited fares on subway and metro busses. Done. Got ...
