... that machine. Oops, I had not seen her clothes in there and they were washed with our things. Luckily she had a sense of humor about it as we sorted through each other's underthings. I later went back to check on the clothes in the dryer, and I saw she had left me a note along with a neatly folded pair of underwear. The underwear was not mine. Today we ventured outside of Tokyo to Nikko, a 2 hour train ride north of the city. This World Heritage Site was the seat of the first Shogun in Edo era Japan and an ancient center of the Buddhist and Shinto religions. It can't be summer yet as my guide book said the drawback of going to Nikko in the summer were the crowds visiting the world heritage area around Tosho-gu - the main shrine in the area (there are quite a few others Rinno-ji, Taiyuin-byo, Futarasan-jinja, Takino-jinji etc) as there wasn't a crowd there at all. ... There were some outer buildings as well that were not under construction but also had a lot of photography bans. From there we walked up to Toshogu. It had a 5-story pagoda out front that is so ornate and beautiful. We then continued inside and were stunned by the beauty. We were reminded a lot of Oregon with the hills and large pine trees. My favorite were the large old stone lanterns covered in moss. The buildings were glowing with the sun reflecting off the gold ...
