Mastering the Art of French Cooking - in Japan

... did no sets today and KC and I played Monopoly on his Nintendo DS – I have no idea what that is but we had a good time.

Yesterday was my day off and I spent it cooking. Mel and KC and I have a routine where we often will fix dinner for the other guys when they are working and we have a day off. (kinda like at home to my guys! (you know who you are!!) like to ...

I love my job!

... Kids who are trying to be "different" but end up looking like every one else their age. All of them are interesting to me. And that is who I got to see yesterday.

My day started with a little boy, about 2, who was enthralled with Santa and Duffy. When he came up, I put my arms out and he ran to me and squeezed my neck for a very long time! His parents were so cute as they watched him. Then we took pictures and he hugged Duffy and they were on their way. I don’t ...

Made it to Narita - what a trip...

... me from Regina to Toronto was delayed by nearly two hours. I and approximately 60 other passengers sat on the tarmac in Regina after a couple of passengers decided at the last minute that they did not want to go to Toronto after all. They left the plane and, according to Transport Canada rules, their luggage had to immediately be removed. This should not have been a problem but the ground crew could not find one of their bags, resulting in the nearly two ...

My volleys had holes in them. Ive got a bad cough at the moment. Possibly swine flu, possibly a bad case of “yellow fever” or.. possibly it is too much of the restaurant Yoshinova. Yay for Yahoo! Sushi and Japanese electronics

... mandarin cans... someone care to explain?) Once we finally made the top observation deck my desire to hurt Angus badly was replaced by gratitude that he had pushed me to see this, and put up with my hunger induced craziness ;) I was still a little grumpy though so we got our photos and headed back down - 15mins compared to just over an hour - I love going down hill! On the way out we noticed that it was now low tide and we could walk out to the Torii. Upon seeing it from right ...

JAPAN - DAY 1 - Narita Airport & Journey to Yumi's

The rice tasted different - like with no flavour. Felt semi sick by this time. We got back "home" at like 10pm - 12pm our body clock time. SOoooooo tired. Japan - A whirlwind visit

... courses (3, for example). We were surprised at how green Japan is - not as built up as we expected. Once on the ground, we decided to head up an old road to see the famous Shinshoji Temple, favoured by Sumo wrestlers and Kabuki theatre stars! Along the path, were many colourful shops just opening for the day - most offered bilingual signs - including English to our relief (4). Everyone that we spoke with was ...

Getting naked with strangers.

We flew to Vietnam yesterday, and, although we had already extended our visit to Japan by a couple of nights, we were sorry to leave. Our bank balance on the other hand breathed a long sigh of relief! Budget...what budget! We arrived in Tokyo and stayed for 3 nights before taking the train to Kyoto, Nara, Tsuwano, Hiroshima (for Miyajima), Takayama and finally back to Tokyo. We had expected Tokyo to be a huge cultural shock after Latin America and it was, but in a ...

Tokyo Arrival

... Tokyo is actually cheaper than I expected. Case in point. After dinner I was tired enough to think about going back to my capsule, but I thought I might walk through Ginza first and find a bar I had read about where everything was 300 yen. Ginza is Tokyo at its most fashionable, and supposedly the buildings that surround Ginza crossing are the most valuable pieces of real estate in the world (the Sony building occupies ...

Tokyo Day 4 Sunday

... on my chop stick skills. (Thanks Calvin for teaching me how to use those things). I was impressed with the apartment they lived in. The apartment was bigger then I expected. It was over 1400 square feet. I was given a tour of the whole apartment and closets too. Mika was a very good host. I was very thankful for her time and efforts to make my trip a pleasant experience in Tokyo. The best part of the meal was the sake I drank ...
