... and with a really sweet ocean freshness. Lamb from long term supplier in Vermont, a relationship developed before he opened French Laundry. Quail very tender and moist with no gamey taste at all. Then came the cheese course from the Andante Farm. Dessert was a sumptuous multi-course affair which doesn't have the whimsical Alice in Wonderful "wow" factor of the Fat Duck but here with a hint of the American influence of mini doughnut.

We got to Napa hot n sweaty after a long drive stuck on i80. Not much to say really, the place is a ghost town, so much for it being a 'must do'. We took an evening wine train with dinner, supposedly going through some of the most beautiful Californian countryside... It ran the length of a motorway, down the middle of it with cars honking either side. Hmmm, maybe we've just been spoilt by Swiss & Indian rail journeys? Maybe not, the Manchester express has better ...

... Gate Bridge. As usual when stuck in traffic someone needs to "go" and poor JG was getting rather desperate to pee the poor girl. Then huge queue at ladies loos when we finally found one at the visitors centre (curse you 80 person tour bus!)

Finally over the Golden Gate Bridge in the foggggg. My love affair with fog has not abated and the San Fran sea fog with all it's weird middle of the day drifting in and out still fascinates ...

... and bacon that turned out to be really spicy, my Irish palate was burning for a few minutes after. I presumed the race was over but I soon learnt that we had a second race to participate in. It took an hour between each race to set up due to technical difficulties. Once going we didn't have the best start and kept in third position for quite a while.
