Before Chongqing we visited the Ghost City of Fengdu which was pretty much for tourists. Only interesting bit being the Red Guards having destroyed various temples which have since been rebuilt. However, that is relevant in itself. Hot as hell and we had a lot of walking to do up hill. A Chinese girl attached herself to us to practise her English. It was excellent. Mike's birthday yesterday!! Quite a milestone. It was a day of moving around and we ...

... peace at last (the rest of the group do the same over the next few hours!) It’s a miserable day – very grey and foggy with fairly heavy rain – we can barely see the banks at the side of the river, but in many ways that’s something of a relief as the scenery seems to be mostly comprised of ugly, utilitarian industrial towns. Not quite what we expected. We also note that we’re the only westerners on board the boat – everyone ...

... before using the Hot Pot.

Once everyone is back to the table with plates of noodles and/or rices along with the created sauce of spices and flavour uniquely to your taste, he started demonstrating the meal process.

The pot in the middle of the table is full of broth and in our case, the outside layer with hot peppers ready to set your mouth on fire. A cart is brought to the table with an array of meats ...
