... walk for some 15 minutes to get to our hostel but at the moment of arrival it was 12.30 so we were perfect on time.

In the hotel they let us use the bathroom so we both had a shower, got our things ready and went for lunch, to our disgrace we had one last McDonalds, because it was fast and close to us. After this we were ready to depart so since the taxis were very cheap (RMB 8), we took one to the train station and were ready to depart or at least that’s what we thought.

After leaving our guesthouse we took a bus to another spot in the park where we could walk around. Where we got off the bus, there was a McDonalds. There is constant noise from tour guides speaking into tinny electronic amplifiers and a lot of pushing and shoving to get around. The aim of the game seems to be to get around as fast as possible and take photos of yourself with various backdrops along the way. There was a music soundtrack provided, ...

... of Internet searching and found that it was only a short detour from our path towards Shanghai. Booking train tickets was easy, we were off to Zhangjiajie! The next day we booked our tickets for Tianmen Mountain and were surprised to find that access was by a 7.5km long cable car from the city centre. Before getting on, we encountered the usual crowds, which consisted mainly of domestic, Korean and Japanese tourists. It took over 45min to get onto the cable ...
