    ... 6 from the front…we should be through in no time once the gate opens. Out jumps the driver and the ticket guy to have their breakkie and they tell us to be back at the bus by 8.30…No probs we aren’t going anywhere (still a bit suspicious we might get dumped at the border).

    Which we did. After finding a lovely clean room for the night at a Guest House with a restaurant/disco across the lane, the locals came out to find out all about us. Armed with our Russian phrase book we pointed to the words 'vehicle' and 'insurance' which they understood and then the son (He spoke a little English) of the Guest House owner drove down the drive.     ... at the final hurdle and were turned back. Some problem with the paperwork.The soldiers were very helpful, courteous and interested in our adventure and we thought one of them wanted to buy the truck!! They gave us lots of valuable advice on Kazakhstan and appeared to be very sorry to turn us back.
