... the river back to the hostel, where I had a treat in store for myself! Cheap pork chops picked up from the supermarket, living the dream!

The following morning, we were all packed and set to leave. Our bus wasn't until the evening however, so we still had the day to kill. We were quite enjoying relaxing in Kaunas and had another leisurely day.

... pasta, both of which were to die for, we decided to head home for a nap and reserve a table for 8 for some dinner as there was to be live music and this place was amazing!

After a 3 hour nap, we head back out.
OMG, the forecast said 13. This was closer to 0.

... run down ones. You know a building is in need of restoration work when they have had to put up a wire mesh overhead to catch falling masonry! I took some photos of the restored sections of Kaunas castle before heading back to the hostel. I had the thought of flushing the contact lens out with eye drops. But again, to no avail. By now I was thinking that my previous assumption was wrong, and that the lens was never in there. I was nearly due to swap them for a new pair anyway ...

... museum. Walking around the museum, we were able to see a square that once held a Lenin statue in the middle. He gone. Too bad buddy. There were some sculptures along the entry to the square that were very Soviet, showing muscular heroic worker stuff. At one point, to the side of this square stood the Soviet tomb of the unknown soldier. He gone too. In 1990, a new monument and eternal flame were reconstructed in honor of the unknown ...

... to the rural home of another relative--Nijole. After our bus overshot the lane, we were redirected by Zdriune, Nijole's granddaughter, who chased after us on a bicycle. When we arrived at the house, we found that Nijole, too, had prepared a spread in anticipation of visitors from the U.S. We were all astounded.
