Kobe - Second Day

... The best I ever had. We really enjoyed “people watching,” as you can tell from our latest photos.

I also wanted to remind everyone that we are able retrieve our regular emails, just like we were at home—just in case anyone wants to drop us a line. More to follow about Nagasaki.

... much better and actually managed to visit some sites such as the spectacle bridge (the oldest stone bridge in japan donated by the chinese which resembles a pair of spectacles when reflected in the water) and Dejima island - at one point an island off the coast of nagasaki and the only place where foreigners (the dutch only) were allowed to live and trade from. We also visited the monument dedicated to the 26 Martyrs who, when they refused to give ...

The place was called Green Pepper so it had some spice to it, it came with rice on the side, the bowl of soupy goodness containing some form of meat, veggies and stuff. Amazing… the only problem is I could probably not order it again as I have no idea what it was called!

The Adventures of Frankyo Tokyo (Part 3)

... which was named Cabii' Sanjua and there took a small tour around Nagasaki in a train showing it's history. I learned how Nagasaki was to be evacuated for over 30 years for the atomic air to wear off and how it was rebuilt. I learned about the guy who founded it along with 2 neighboring cities. Kind of boring but it was peaceful. After that I decided to take a little hiking trip ...

The Second City Devastated by Nuclear Power

... people who dropped it in the first place. I tried to blend into the background as much as possible, although my skin kept giving me away. On the day of the anniversary of the dropping of the A bomb, the 9th August, I met Tomo and we went to the Peace Memorial Park where the ceremony was taking part. A kind Japanese lady saw us looking around for a seat and welcomed us over to her part of the wall. We had a brief chat before ...

Spotting European Influences in Japan

... house was relocated to a park, although with other notable European style building thought worth preserving - the gardens are nice enough, if a little Disney-fied. The moving stairways up the hill, fountains and oldie-worldie gift-shoppe which bizarrely sold Cadburys chocolate (which of course we bought loads of!), Walkers all-butter Scottish shortbread and Welsh flags (which we limited ourselves to one of!) all made it an outing to remember.

... 150,000 people killed or injured * winds of 170 kmph (Hurrican Katrina apparently had winds of about 80kmph) * 70% of the victims were women, children and the elderly as the men were away fighting. All of this and more is graphically displayed at the Atomic Bomb Museum. As for the Peace Statue - well good intentions aside, it's a monstrosity of immense proportions. It's a man with 1 arm raised toward the ...

Looking at the earth and its history we have been here for what?......TICK.....yes a simple tick of the clock or a blink of an eye and what have we done? We have destroyed, destroyed and continued to destroy. It seems that the more we advance the more we destroy our future. There is something inside us that will never allow ...
