Six very large suitcases, 4 stuffed carry-ons, 2 bulky kennels, 2 nervous dogs, 1 energetic toddler and only 2 adults. I'm not sure if flying half-way across the world with a two-year who apparently decided to boycott naps for the journey was more difficult than managing the sheer amount of stuff. Our small express shipment may take 45 days to arrive; the rest of our stuff perhaps a month or two behind. Therefore, six bags is not a lot especially with a toddler. I have ...

... the frenetic pace of Tokyo.

We decided on viewing the Matsumoto Timepiece Museum, which displays a collection of timepieces over the centuries, starting with a sundial and a candle. Dinner tonight is in their French restaurant. We are welcomed by an English speaking waiter from Sri Lanka. Knowing he would have English speaking guests, he had kindly translated tonight's menu into English and printed it out for us. The food is surprisingly delicious and beautifully plated, you don't quite expect a French chef in a family type resort in Kusatsu. As it turns out the chef had worked at the embassy in Italy which explains it ...

... and we need help finding the Japanese restaurant. As it turns out we are the only people in the Japanese restaurant, the first course of our Kaiseki dinner is already waiting for us on our table. One of the courses is pork Shabu-Shabu, quite tasty! Also some sashimi, tempura, broiled fish, egg custard and of course rice and soup at the end. Well prepared and nicely presented, but the Kaiseki dinner we had two years ago in the Sekitei Ryokan was the best we ever ...
