We arranged to go snow shoeing today. Our guest house host is a mountain guide so he is taking us out for an adventure which is great. We can only do a half day today due to the weather coming in snowy in the afternoon but that is fine, still gives us a taste of it. We got kitted out with boots and snow shoes and poles and bundled into the van to head up the road. It is about 2* so not too chilly. We had to get the right balance of warm but not ...

Today is the day to venture up to the Japanese Alps to Myokokogan. Marina was lovely enough to drop us over to the train rather than us having to go all the way back down to Nagano and back up on the other line. The train had few other tourist looking mobs on it heading up to the ski resorts. It was a pretty journey up through the hills with the snow getting deeper and deeper. We ...

Last night when we were chatting , I mentioned that it was forecast to snow, that was dismissed, no it won't snow. During the night I got up to visit the loo and it was happily snowing away and looked like it had been for a while. So pretty. Today was to be Scotty's choice of activity and after a homemade brekky we got the train back down to Nagano to see the Zenko-Ji temple. The forecast was for about 2* max so we were pretty ...

Well today I managed to tick another big ticket off my wildlife list. The Japanese Macaques or Snow Monkeys. Marina made us a delicious traditional breakfast of rice balls stuffed with seaweed and local plums plus a bowl of miso soup and some pickled vegetables and grasshopper. Yes you heard correct grasshopper! They are quite nice really in a exoskeletal kind of way. We had to get the Snow Monkey Express up to Yudanaka to then get a ...

It is annoying when phones don't change to the local time and the alarm goes off at 5. Oh well, I managed to snooze a little bit after that. We ventured out into the the morning 5* sunshine to find something to line our tummies. There were lots of eating places last night around the train station so we headed back that way. There were lots of choices but quite popular was a small cafe which had ham and egg toasted sandwiches, tea and coffee. We grabbed one of those which ...
