Day 7- First trip to the school.

... When we returned to the village many of the group went to bed but others began a game of poker which went on until late in the evening. We all then went to the bar for some interesting revelations about the group. We were then rudely interrupted by mahooooooooooooooooosive beetle aka Beetlebum. The beetle then became friendly with Mr Smith by crawling up his leg onto his jumper.

Chiang Rai - Staying with the Akha Hill Tribe

Barnaby and his friends travelled to Chiang Rai, on a Green Bus (very luxurious). Barnaby nicknamed the bus the Carlsberg bus, as if Carlsberg made buses..... They were collected in a pick-up and taken into the jungle to stay with the Akha Hill Tribe.

Updates on stuff

... OK. I haven't made in huge advances in this area and I am still too busy, but I am slowly doing more. I am riding my bicycle much more than before. Work - Lots and lots happening. My head is full and I am tired. Mlabri - Nothing with the Mlabri for a while as Mirror Foundation has run out of money to help them and also everyone is too busy at the moment, although we did send blankets to them for the winter. We need more ...

Back to work

2 January 2552 This morning I went back to work at Mirror Foundation after a couple days off for New Year. Where is everyone? Eventually just before 0830 a number of the interns came out of the woodwork and Oat and Pan showed up. We had a quick meeting. I was ...

... hikes around to the waterfalls and villages that surround the area. What a gorgeous place this was. All of Northern Thailand seems to be these un-ending green hills and valleys, with a patchwork of burnt forest, rice paddies, soy beans, corn, rubber trees all interspersed with regrowing forests. We just sat in awe of the beauty here. Sunset was spectatular, though anti-climatic because the forever grey sky of the rainy season allows for ...

Getting aid into Myanmar

... then they can provide for their own future without the need to rely upon the corrupt government allowing aid into their villages. Your money can support Burma Issues to make that happen. Please donate through Red Band for Burma or buy Red Bands for Burma. Details of the trip have been excluded for security of Burma Issues, it's partner and the villagers. However, if you would like more information about the trip please email questions to burmaissues@burmaissues.org"

Trekking in the Tropics

... to Jafoo, a small Lahu village of about 120 people, as part of a cultural homestay program. I'm sitting at the moment on a platform made of bamboo logs, surrounded by clucking chickens, wandering dogs, and grunting pigs, who do, incidentally, have the run of the village. I'm not sure how sanitary this is, but I haven't actually seen too much pig poop lying around. Maybe they're housetrained or something and only go in a certain spot. It's hard to ...

Chiang Rai Area Hilltribes

... as much of my life with the hilltribe people as they were able to do with me as I only had a few photos to help introduce our family to them. However, I do feel blessed to have had the opportunity as I have learned a great deal about this part of the world and more so about these particular groups of people. I am not sure how long these hilltribe people will last as their numbers get smaller and smaller as time passes. It has been a privilage to have seen what I have ...
