... strip is littered with cigarette butts and old bottles. Old, decaying band posters hang off crumbling buildings, reinforcement rods are visible on the buildings and tram tracks. In a word, grim.

Then I was able to goto the Mosque for Friday prayers. It was confusing being able to tell who is who as there were many clean shaven white European Balkan muslims here ...

... spent on these massive government buildings and over the top statues that are everywhere you look. The infrastructure and people meanwhile are suffering. You don't have to look very far to start seeing the real living conditions. As a side point, Mother Theresa was born in Skopje and they have marked out where the house was she was born in.
