... food was delicious but heavy on the meat dishes especially pork and lamb and chicken. Some kabob had come in with the 500 years of Ottoman occupation, but most were cooked in slices. The most common wines were the French grape varieties such as Cab., merlot, shiraz, etc. but we tried to focus on the old traditional grapes. The was a much smaller list of those but they were very good also. The reds were robust and dry and the whites had a bit of fruitiness ...

... the outer, front part of the church, but didn't go into the inner bit because we were in rather a hurry. I made a mental note to come back again later or tomorrow for a proper look. After looking at the Roman remains for a little bit we walked on under the arch at the side of the President's Building, past the Archaeology Museum and onwards. ... once again it would take us directly to Sofia. We were wrong again and had to swap trains once more. This time however we got separated as a group and no one was sure what platform we had to be on. This train station was busier but I helpfully no one spoke English and there were no numbers on the platforms. Eventually we found everyone else and the ticket officer who got us on the right train. ... all night. The beer was flowing like wine. It was a blast. I made friends with a couple of guys, one of which I met back in Split, and we took off for Belgrade via minibus. Belgrade. The ride to Belgrade was wild. Crazy drivers. Small roads. I shut my eyes as much as possible. Pretty much uneventful otherwise, but one thing stuck out. As we were aimlessly walking around the station a lady stopped us and asked if we needed help. We told her our predicament and she offered some helpful advice about the local taxis.
