... where there happened to be a carnival there for the week. At the carnival they sold these giant french fries that they would put ketchup and mayonnaise on. I think that's a European thing. It was weird, but Amsterdam got weirder. They took us into the red light district aka where the prostitutes are. That was interesting. It's legal there so they just stand in the windows. Then of course there was the many cannabis cafe's and an overwhelming smell of marijuana ...

Day 42, Topdeck day 11, Berlin to Amsterdam

A travel blog entry by lisanovotny

Long bus day ahead of us. 600km to travel, which is roughly 8-9 hours. There were quite a few hungover people from last night's pub crawl so the bus ride was a very quiet one. We stopped for lunch in the Netherlands, and set up another picnic in a Maccas carpark. It's so good to have salad wraps. We had a light lunch at the Museum and then returned to the dock to continue our Canal trip. We rode the Green line and the Blue line which gave us a nice tour of Amsterdam.
All of us agree that we are "toured out" and ready to head home.
We ordered a taxi from our hotel to the airport and must leave at 530am. It will be a long day!
Thanks for following us on our trip. We had a ball!

I almost went to the botanical garden near there instead, but had heard Artis was lovely. I wish I had opted for the Garden. I hate seeing those poor critters in cages, and it was 20 euro to get in! I do not recommend it at all. ...

... I'm headed to Paris this Friday to see Sam and Natalya (we are reversing roles). Until next week and much love, Michael.

P.S. Although this is technically in the next week, I just had to include our visit to the Stasi prison Hohenschönhausen of East Berlin in this blog post. (some of the pictures might be at the bottom of the blog). It was one of the most moving memorials/preserved museums I ...
