Arrived in Cuba

Cuba is fantastic. I arrived in the dark, yesterday evening after a journey via Jamaica and their very chotic departures system. Converted some money, jumped in a cab and arrive safely at Parque Central hotel in Havana. The hotel had upgrade the room to a suite - fantastic! Magic Mark had already made lots of new friends (mostly of the Virgin flight crew) and they were wainting in a bar near by. Knowing this I had sorted out the make up situation in the back of the Cab (quite tricky consideri...

A Little Taste of Cuba

Landing in Havana on July 2nd, aboard Air Canada 970 (direct flight from Toronto), I was excited at the thought of arriving somewhere I'd never been before. There's always a bit of trepidation when visiting a new country, but it's the kind of trepidation I absolutely love: a mix of happy excitement, adrenaline rush, and overall joy at the thought of discovering a new place and great people, and experiencing things that are bound to overwhelm my senses. I knew that Havana, and Cuba, would not ...

Luxury

Overall we spent 5 nights in Parque Central and I have to say that this is possibly THE best hotel in Cuba. Service excellent, food excellent, facilities excellent, location excellent. I would highly recommend at least a 2 night stay here.

Stay at the Parque Central

from A TripAdvisor Member
Excellent hotel stay in "old Havana". I spent three pleasurable nights( 7/14-7/16) in the Parque Central Hotel. Its location, ambience, staff and buffet breakfast were at the five star level. The evening snacks in the lounge area were well prepared and very, very tasty.

I had heard that the Parque Central hotel did not have a Cuban ambience. In the absence of what was the reviewers expectations I would say that its location and musicians made it difficult for me to not know that I was in Cuba. I would return to the Parque Central Hotel in a heart beat. Keep up the good work.

Stylish

Stayed at the NH Parque Central hotel from May 3rd to 10th, 2003. Loved it! Luxurious hotel, amazing lobby, great rooms with an awesome bed, pool on the roof (which is especially nice when everyone else in Havana is coping with the heat - 30 to 35°C), great view, excellent and professional staff at the restaurants and the bars, good and ever-present security, ideal location to discover Havana (especially La Haban Vieja), since almost everything is within walking distance.Although we were at first a bit reluctant to take a guided tour with a carriage around the city (because everyone is always offering you tours and taxi rides, as well as cigars and lunches at their 'paladares'), we took one on our last day, and still discovered more of Havana. There's so much to say about the hotel, but the best remark is that you should experience it yourself!

Can't beat it!

This hotel is fantastic even to US standards. You will find it hard to find a hotel in Miami that is of this caliber. The staff is friendly, the food amazing, and the rooms colorful. If you would like a great view request rooms on the 6th or 7th floor. If you like quiet, request a room overlooking the atrium. The french doors open and even though it is an atrium, you get fresh air and the atrium is just spectacular. The business center is great and e-mail is cheap.I truly would return if I get a chance.

Its not called the Tulip anymore

Feb 2003 Hotel has new name. Fabulous wonderful comfortable useful lobby, with many seating areas, great bars and the best hamburger in Cuba. Excellent breakfast. This has the 5star feel but more informal souls will not be intimidated. Lots of facilities such as internet and roof top pool and jaccuzzi.. Visible comfortble security... lots of suits talking to themselves... like a Hilary Clinton trip or an expensive Bond street jewellers. Many USA alumni tours and other Americans stay here. maybe the only Cuban they meet is the barman?Rooms are good, carpetted and luxurious 5 star but not phillipe staark/shrager.This is an excellent good bet.. you cant go wrong here ... or try the Telegrapho opposite.

If you want to feel at home

We were spending most of our days in Melia Las Americas in Varadero. However, we neede to visit some placese in Havana and decided to take the Parque Cantral, because year before that, we stayed at the Nacional and went out dining to the Parque Central and felt like, we should have booked here instead.Simply, up to European standard of comfortable luxury hotel and thank God, no super mini-skirt staffs inside. Honestly, I was sick and tired of watching employees in Varadero wearing incredibly Russina like mini skirt(you use to see them in state owned Intourist hotels).Food is excellent, service is good, nice atmosphere and simply comfortable. If anyone is looking for real comfort, I would recommend this place.

Having Havana Both Ways

from pinemont
Visited Havana in March of 2002. Stayed in the Telegrafo on Parque Central, diagonally across the square (at the top of the Prado) from the Golden Tulip. Naturally, I went over to have a look. The atmosphere, while maintaining a classic Cuban look and feel, differed from many other fine hotels I'd peeked into in that the appointments were clearly fresher and of more recent vintage. This was luxury with which one could be comfortable.

Take this how you will, but The Golden Tulip was the only place I felt I had to draw myself up to full height and stride by the doorman as if I were a high roller.

The magnificent lobby occupies two floors, and though I didn't take a room there I could tell it would be a fine place to stay.

The clincher...and the reason I headed this piece "Have Havana Both Ways"...is the ultra-modern pool/sunning area/bar up on the roof.

I found Havana's creative use of roofs (restaurants up there, especially!) to be utterly charming in all cases, but if you, like me, are married to someone for whom "preserved" (read: original 1800s equipment throughout the lobby) hotels fail to cause a swoon, then the Golden Tulip is the way to give here everything she wants while you still get one of Havana's classics.

Oh, and if you're on the fence about going at all? Go. My lasting impression is that of a wonderful people soldiering along in a city that - and our teachers never shared this with us - once rivaled Paris in beauty. Too bad the source of the opulence was traceable to near slave-like conditions out in the countryside. But that's for another discussion.

Enjoy!

Best Choice in Havana

The Golden Tulip Parque Central has everything going for it: great rooms, warm atmosphere, rooftop pool overlooking old and central Havana, and a perfect location. We spent a week in August 2002 using this hotel as a base to tour Habana Vieja (the old city). We were one block from the old city, in an area that felt perfectly safe at all times. We were also a five minute walk from the Malécon and the Gulf of Florida.

There is a multitude of great eating establishments within a quick walk (you have to look for them or follow the guidebooks... try one of the social clubs!).

If you want to see what Spanish Havana is all about, stay away from the Nacional, the Presidente or the Melia hotels because they are too far away; try the Golden Tulip Parque Central.

One of the Best

I have stayed at the Parque Central Hotel in Havana twice and am reluctant to say what a wonderful place that it is out of fear that I won't be able to get accomodations there anymore. It is one of the better hotels that I have stayed in anywhere in the world and I have traveled extensively. It is also centrally located in Old City of Havana off of the central park and the capitolio. What is especially nice is that it isn't a huge tourist hotel -- I believe that it has around 250 rooms. A wonderfully pleasant view from the rooftop with a pool and exercise room. For the money it is the best.
