    ... the castle, where I stop for coffee. It's very steep and my legs are feeling it. I carry on and eventually come out at tiny little lakeside town. It's a beautiful (though a bit difficult) walk with magnificent views of the lake from up high. More photos. Back down lakeside, I head back towards Varenna. I stop at Hotel Villa Cipressi for late lunch. Spaghetti with duck ragu and porcini mushrooms. ...

    ... digital system because the woman has barely gone when the dentist points to the X-Ray image of my teeth on her screen and says there’s a hole. I agree.

    She then says that she’ll remove the tooth. Huh?

    I was looking at making an appointment to get a filling today and here she is wanting to solve the problem in quite a different way. She explained that I didn’t need it to eat … but …, well, I wasn’t expecting this.

    ... OMG! This is such an impossibly beautiful place. There is a photo op every second. The lake is gorgeous and the mountains are behind it. I'm so glad I came up here. I've pretty much been everywhere in Italy now that I wanted to go. For dinner I had sliced chicken fillet with a Parmesan cheese sauce with a "hint" of truffle and vegies plus the obligatory wine! I couldn't taste the truffle but it was so nice to have some decent meat. Very nice restaurant ...

    But many companies work today – it's not a public holiday the way it is in NZ. Huh?

    And in case you’re interested, yes, Easter Monday is a public holiday.

    ... we take. This path was undulating with quite a few uneven stone steps. One section was covered with recently cut grass. Guess who slipped here? Me again! No damage caused. I slipped quite demurely even if I say so myself.

    Ended back in Varenna near Villa Monastero. When I checked the map later at home, we walked up the bloody mule track. No wonder we found it so steep!

    Sun was really out now. It’s about 3pm and by the time we got back ...
