... to head to the more established Cayo Coco and checked into a resort there. No casas in this area. The resort is really really nice and Alex did well again inquiring about the cheapest room and then asking for an upgrade. Well we got a room with a lagoon view which is pretty cool (at the last place she arranged an upgrade from a standard to a junior suite). ... was lovely, and the food was good, (we had shredded lamb - vieja ropa). There was a charming photo of Dona Eutimia herself at the head of the restaurant. Reservations essential for this place.

After a further exchange of Spanish I managed to ascertain the Guantanamo train wasn't leaving for another week or so. But at least I could take a picture of the Santiago timetable which left on Tuesday and was scheduled to take 18 hours. This isn't bad when you consider the bus takes 16 hours. The other bonus was that because they've taken old 'Tren Frances', (old French TGV trains), out of service for supposed refurbishment you have to get the scabby ...

... some errands and a Swiss guy was sitting in the corner stacking boxes of cigars. Basically, this was a cigar smuggling den. I got chatting to the Swiss guy and he told me that he has been a professional cigar smuggler for the last 20 years. He visits Cuba 3-4 times a year and always brings back 50 boxes of the most expensive cigars to Europe (1 box with 25 cigars = €1250. He sells the box for €800 on ebay in Switzerland).
