... to head to the more established Cayo Coco and checked into a resort there. No casas in this area. The resort is really really nice and Alex did well again inquiring about the cheapest room and then asking for an upgrade. Well we got a room with a lagoon view which is pretty cool (at the last place she arranged an upgrade from a standard to a junior suite). ... for two nights at the end of the trip, but even so, there is a wealth of exploring here, and we had seen hardly any of it.
Cuba is anticipating climate change rises to sea level by demolishing houses along the Havana coast, and replacing them with coconut or mangrove to stop the sea.

... all the locals... at half the price of the bus. The more helpful lady at the ticket office, not located in the station of course, told me we'd need to get to Havana Central one hour before departure time in order that we would be confirmed. I quipped, "No somos religiosos!" (We are not religious), or at least I did in my head...

  • The Cuban village house: made of cement with a covered porch in the front, very often half of the front is a porch, once in a while the whole front… and on the porch are 2 rocking chairs, so you can sit out front and watch the people, talk to your neighbours and the house has a little garden around the house
