... into the cathedral. Only cost 2 euros each and that gave us entry to the Cathedral and the Museum. There were also other options, but this seemed the easiest to start with. While we were waiting in line, a number of female tourists were turned away from the cathedral line because of their inappropriate dress. They are pretty strict at the door - no short shorts, dresses have to be only two fingers above the knee, no shoulders showing. It was all pretty funny - and ...

    Relaxing at Lake Como

    ... atmosphere.
Lake Como, it has to be said, is huge. The water is clear and deep, and in the morning sun, it kind of looks like a grey, teal colour. Very unique. The mountains that rise up from every side of you keep the winds down and make this place unlike anything I have ever seen before. ... afternoon, Nathan, Tilly and I, had our first of what I hope will be many excursions into Milan. We took the bus from near our apartment to a metro stop and then the metro to the Duomo. It was pretty surreal to climb the stairs out of an underground train station see the enormous cathedral gradually emerge, step by step. We wandered around the shops and I took them to "Panzerotti Luini" which was as amazing as the first time and slightly less busy! Then we went for Nathan ...

... if only for a short time. Arrividerci Venezia!

When we arrived at the train station, I mentioned to Mel that it was her first European train ride. She responded, "my first train ride ever…unless you count the Prairie Dog Central"…lol

It took two hours and 35 minutes to get to Milan. Some of which I managed to sleep through.

Another first for Mel was riding the metro. We first stopped at the deposito bagagli (left luggage) office where ...

    1749. The Wannabe Country

Day 288 2 hrs, 2 kms Despite this clearly not being the touristy, outdoorsy part of the country, there are still maps of hiking/biking trails giving me an alternative route from town to town. The problem is this trail takes me high, high up the mountainside, and I don't really feel like climbing mountains today. Finally I do find a side-path down so I can explore my next town, right along the shore of the lake. Glad I don't skip it. Riva San Vitale ...
