... and chambers dotted around, and a river running through the centre of the site which was very idyllic! The setting was fantastic, nestled amongst clumps of pine trees on a hillside, with larger mountains behind us. It was lovely and fresh up there and so peaceful. There was a trail leading up behind the temple which led to a rocky outcrop - perfect place to sit down and take in the view! We had our first Korean meal in Seoul - bibimbap in stone pot at a local eatery. After checking in, we took the metro to Dongdaemun markets for a wander and this area had a lot of cheap clothing markets which weren't too appealing actually.

We checked into the hotel and freshened up before heading back out to take the metro to Dongdaemun. This area was the clothing and haberdashery quarter in Seoul. Again the clothing ...

... Slightly too much Hello Kitty for me and rows of handbag shops lining the concourse. Lots of Kim Chi to buy and my absolute favourite snack: dried squid. Walkers Crisps cannot compete with that. Stopped at the loo, only to discover some more cultural differences: a heated loo seat that only Volvo drivers would be used to and a control panel of options post use - see pic. Hongdae is the area around Hongik University and bustled with young students. The shops were full of trendy clothes and jewellery, albeit of poor quality. I bought some copycat earrings resembling a set an actress wore in a recent K-drama. Most character goods-loving Asians come here to visit the Hello Kitty cafe.

Gangnam was a much larger area than I had expected and grand plans ...
