Today was a public holiday (see yesterday's entry) and everything was closed except the cafés which were doing a great business. The sun was out for a lot of the day too.

The school kids were out in force again with their marching and drumming and having a great time. There were priests and lots of dignataries laying wreaths and then more marching and drumming through the lined streets. It was quite moving to see.

... apples, read as 'heavily pock-marked' into a bag for us, then dried figs, and pomegranates, despite us saying, no thanks, no more. Then he had the cheek to charge us 7.8 euro, but as usual David had developed this wonderful rapport with him, so how could I call him a cheat and a thief! ... gorgeous vistas, beaches, and more great Greek cuisine. We rented a car for one day but could easily have filled another day with a 4x4. I was surprised by the arid landscape beyond the fertile valley of the interior, yet this is an island with more green space than others in the Cyclades. I suppose I associate islands (Vancouver Island, Ireland) with verdure but such is not the case in Greece.

... a swim. We wandered back into town to find lunch. We sat down at one cafe, only to notice that all the seafood on the menu was noted as frozen. We got up and continued on our hunt for something a little fresher. We wound our way through the streets and found a fast food gyro place serving gyro wraps and Greek salads.
