... Hungarian plains .
Later Ildiko showed us some 'rescued’ wild animals native to the area. We had dinner and lots of chatting at the one and only Hortobagy pub/restaurant.

... pension is. We follow him very gratefully to the Pension Fontana, a simple but clean 'pensuela' which serves us a very adequate Italian sups. It's in the old part of the town which consists of one main square and a few churches with other buildings around it. The newer part of the town is uninspiring, depressing, industrialized and shabby, reflecting its communist past as a mining and smelting centre. ... we are in the city of Debrecen, which is closer to Budapest than Opalyi and also the home of Orshi (Eva and Zsili's other daughter). We went out in the down of Debrecen, stopping for dessert and espresso with the family. We are going to spend the night here in Debrecen at Orshi and Adam's home. Tomorrow we will take a train from Debrecen to Budapest to the airport. We are looking forward to coming home and seeing ...

... on my part! They also had ironed chicken legs on the menu. The mind boggles.
Mia (our new friend!) then came out to the car to take photos of it and us & to wave us off!

36 degrees by now, thank goodness for air con, although we had tried to keep it a secret from some of the others in their 'vintage vehicles' not wanting to gloat (heehee!) but someone asked us straight out so we had to 'fess up!

... to the Roncs and enjoyed some live music. It was a 2 man band, but they were great! They played a large variety of covers, from The Foo Fighters to The Beatles. It was a great night and we learned that they play there every Wednesday. I was so proud of Maggie and I last night though, we were going to take a cab home and we asked how much it would cost and the guy tried to completely rip us off, but at this point ...
