Later Ildiko showed us some 'rescued’ wild animals native to the area. We had dinner and lots of chatting at the one and only Hortobagy pub/restaurant.

... on the other side of Debrecen as we approach the Romanian border. We cross into Romania without incident, although we're stopped by a policeman who checks our passports. Hilli comes out in a cold sweat. We try to buy a road vignette, but unlike in Austria and Switzerland, are assured with a smile that bikers don't need them. ... it was!) because there was no wind & we were moving most of the time. It was well worth the visit, with spectacular ice stalagmites & 'tites.
Onwards through more spectacular scenery (Slovakia is definately a place to revisit) we made our way to Hungary. We followed some lorries over a very bumpy level crossing, and through the (now defunct) border post, which looked like bandits should appear from any minute.

Hungary's money is forint, and we didn't have any, ...
