Finally left the noisy dorm room yay. Saw some massive waves along the coast towards Monterey. Stopped off in Santa Cruz, not much going on in Fall! Apparently it's wooden rollercoaster is a national monument! Got to Monterey and found a visitor centre for a map. Hotel man upgraded us to a deluxe king, had a microwave and a fridge! Watched lots of TV ...
Monterey, California, United States rich_charlotte... and I could crawl in a decent amount. "Shelves" made of roots were inside, that's where I'd keep my food. The roots almost made a chair as well...and thats a living room if I'd ever seen one.

Christa and I made some balancing rocks before our trek back down the mountain began. I had lots of trouble getting back down, switching between sliding out of my wet flips to going barefoot. Neither was great since sliding out was grip ...
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, California, United States ktowers86... of the waves...(don't think it was Talon though).

05/11/2009 - After a lovely lie-in, we woke up to a gorgeous breakfast of berries and porridge. We headed back into town and found a 'secret walk' along a river. The houses along the path had private little gardens right on the rivers edge. It looked like such a lovely place to live.

After grabbing lunch at a cafe (Jim had a Philly cheese-steak and ...
Capitola, California, United States jimandlaura... what happened with the po', but I assume her and Ryan explained our mishap and he left.

I felt bad for the commotion I created but still...what if??

What a laugh that became for the rest of the night. The walk back to the restaurant was stellar fun. Anytime anything like that goes down, recapping it is half the fun. As we walk past Taco Bell, just nearby, the 2 sketchy fellas walk out and say "nice to see you again"...and when they did it seemed almost nice. The ...
Santa Cruz, California, United States ktowers86... and moutainous interior. Every couple of miles is a "Vista Point", and you could spend all day stopping at these laybys and gazing at the amazing scenery. The scale is truly staggering - and at times a little unnerving. Every now and then an innocent sign announced "low shoulders" - rather than some sort of medical condition, this actually meant "watch out, there's no barrier here, and if you're not exceptionally careful you will ...
Big Sur, California, United States jimmcauliffe... the sun, but the wind has an awful bite to it!

We took a walk along Cannery Row... not all that much to see except touristy shops and restaurants and continued along the coast to the Old Fisherman’s Wharf. The walk along the coast was very nice as we got to see sea lions and seals basking in the sun.

Fisherman’s Wharf was typically touristy, as expected. It is pretty much just a smaller scale of the Fisherman’s Wharf ...
Monterey, California, United States zwergliazraelUnbelievably, I'm leaving in one week to hit the fossil fuel free road. Counting down with biofuel/fuel factoids. #7: US restaurants use over 3 billion gallons of vegetable oil annually, much of which goes into landfills, pet food, or animal feeds.

Monterey, California, United States niki72... sandy beach which overlooks Pebble Beach Golf Club - It's the only golf course that I know that has all the fairways mowed in stripes (just like Wimbledon). Big Sur After lunch, before the inevitable afternoon fog rolled in from the sea to engulf Carmel, we drove down Highway 1 "Big Sur", the rocky coastline which extends for 20 miles south from the Carmel River. The road winds its way along the very rugged coast ...
Monterey, California, United States chris-barbara... watched the seals that were crowded onto one little dock, and then headed to Carmel to drive the 17 Mile Road. When Jim and I drove this about 8 years ago, we loved it, and although the herds of deer that we saw then didn't show themselves for the boys, it was still a lovely drive. I loved it, but I'm also more of a golf fan than either of them!!! After the drive we made the 3 hour drive to spend the night in Sacramento, and then tomorrow, it's off to Lake Tahoe
