      Switzerland and its mountains

... of Switzerland. After a gentle look around and some lunch (another lovely local soup with meat and vegetables) Joy - of all people!! - said she fancied going up the mountain by cable car. Now Joy is scared of heights, and these are pretty big mountains, but off we went. Two rather nervous cable car rides later, we were at the village of Murren, altitude some 5,600 feet and about half way to the summit of ...

The mountains were HUGE and the little towns were nestled right up to the base of them. It was quite picturesque. I tried to capture a ...

We decided to make full use of our semester ticket which gives us free transport around the region and thus ended up at Breisach one weekend.

The weather was really gloomy, making the whole trip quite worthless. The view of the rhine river was nothing spectacular.

I guess the only time we'd be back to this place is to take a bus to Colmar.

... way, we haven't had a bad beer yet. Mmmmmm

Next we went to Colmar, France. This is far eastern France, next to the German border, in the Alsace-Lorraine wine region, and is more German than French. (The land was alternately ruled by both countries over the years.) Its old town went back hundreds of years. It was full of enchanting narrow streets lined with timber front buildings, leading to open squares full of places to eat or have a ...
