We turned up to the health centre on Thursday and were shocked to find it overflowing with people. From 9 until 12 Ocean and I helped by taking everyone's blood pressure. There was no time for a break but gradually the masses of people thinned until it was time for lunch. Being Chinese New Year on Friday some patients had brought us fruit and Chinese sweets which we had for dessert. In the afternoon we went to the aerobics again. Then we were given tops to try ...

      Day 92
Tough journey! 7 hours on the road and the worst road yet!!! Not knowing the roads in Laos we did a bit of research for the journey to Savannaket and without going back on ourselves to Pakse we was told a short cut west across country to the Mekong highway. We was told that this shortcut road was good just dusty and gravelly (loose stone). So... off we set on our shortcut road. Loose stone is the hardest to drive on but if its just very small loose stone its still ...

... at 2pm. One of the teachers had a friend coming back at the same time as us so her husband picked us up and drove us back to Ubon. He was Indian and spoke very good English so we chatted on the way back while the 2 girls fussed over his daughter (all 5 of us were of different nationality - Vietnamese, Indian, Laos, Thai and English). All though it was an experience travelling to Laos, I was glad to get back to Thailand where everything is cheaper and the city is alot more ...

We think we will remember the bus journey to Savannakhat forever. Three days later we can definitely see the funny side of it and we are ready to share our experience. We booked our bus destined from Hue in Vietnam to Savannakhat in Laos. We ummed and aahed over whether to take the nine and a half hour trek to Savannakhat or the monster fourteen hour trek to Pakse in Laos. We went for the shorter journey.... or so we thought. The bus was scheduled to leave at ...

... lady we'd been trying to avoid since we arrived on the island!), we made it to Savanakhet closer to 8pm. We were transferred into a Sawng Taew, only to find that, as is custom, it wasn't going anywhere until it had at least 10 people in it, and we were more than 15km outside of the town and not in any position to chose an alternative. So we sat and waited. By the time we made it to the bus station actually in Savanakhet, and transferred to another tuk tuk it ...
