We've passed through some spectacularly beautiful countryside here in Laos, in some ways not unlike Thailand with its rocky outcrops and greenery. We’re following the Mekong a lot of the way, which forms the border with Thailand.

Laos is easy to drive through with a smaller population than other Asian countries, it’s not such a frenetic pace or ...

We turned up to the health centre on Thursday and were shocked to find it overflowing with people. From 9 until 12 Ocean and I helped by taking everyone's blood pressure. There was no time for a break but gradually the masses of people thinned until it was time for lunch. ... that the 320km drive of the day before had caused some problems with all bikes except Dave's Bratt. The Minsk and Butch basically wouldn't start, Princess' gear pedal had come off, and I still had an oil leak which I'd narrowed down to the gasket. The gasket was brand new in Vientiane and raised another question of that mechanics overpriced skill. The first mechanic got Butch going but seemed to be baffled with the Minsk. He sorted out my gear pedal but recommended ...

... how to fix it. We stop for maybe 45 minutes and they make a temporary repair to get us to the next town. Before we get there, another boom, but we don't stop this time and creep into a tiny roadside town which fortunately has a tyre shop. Two hours pass in this tiny town and the guys keep fixing the tyre and then you hear it blow again. The local people are lovely to us, the kids are gorgeous and it gets to maybe 7pm and the sun set is beautiful. ...
