We turned up to the health centre on Thursday and were shocked to find it overflowing with people. From 9 until 12 Ocean and I helped by taking everyone's blood pressure. There was no time for a break but gradually the masses of people thinned until it was time for lunch. Being Chinese New Year on Friday some patients had brought us fruit and Chinese sweets which we had for dessert. In the afternoon we went to the aerobics again. Then we were given tops to try ...

    Day 92
Tough journey! 7 hours on the road and the worst road yet!!! Not knowing the roads in Laos we did a bit of research for the journey to Savannaket and without going back on ourselves to Pakse we was told a short cut west across country to the Mekong highway. We was told that this shortcut road was good just dusty and gravelly (loose stone). So... off we set on our shortcut road. We had a terrible lunch that was nothing that we ordered but the weather was good and we continued on. Kim and Vikki swapped bikes for the last stretch in part to make things a ...

... but come 8:30am we were still sat in the bus station whilst our bus is loaded within an inch of its life with grain, onions, potatoes, bags of flip flops. Under all the seats, the floor is lined with bags of rice, three storeys high, each weighing 25kg- some double that. At the back of the bus the rice bags are loaded all the way up and on top of the seats. Add 40 passengers and all the cargo stowed underneath the bus- and the bus felt a little on ...

    Breaking the Journey in Savannakhet

... to 9pm and we'd joined forces with the other "ferang" from the bus to share the cost of the tuk tuk this time. We made it to a guesthouse we'd picked out of Lonely Planet and we were just grateful they had a room even if it was slightly more expensive than we'd intended. After a fruitless attempt to find dinner, in a town (and country) that closes at 11pm and with kitchens that therefore shut by 10pm, we gave up on that idea, bought crisps and beer and had a picnic ...
