... I think there are as many, if not more, cars than motorbikes in Laos, which has not been the case in many of the Asian countries we’ve been through. It’s quite relaxing and pleasurable to travel in Laos, and pretty.

We were lucky enough to be able to park on the terrain of the Police and Fire Brigade of Savannakhet for the night. They offered us the use of ...

We turned up to the health centre on Thursday and were shocked to find it overflowing with people. From 9 until 12 Ocean and I helped by taking everyone's blood pressure. There was no time for a break but gradually the masses of people thinned until it was time for lunch. Being Chinese New Year on Friday some patients had brought us fruit and Chinese sweets which we had for dessert. In the afternoon we went to the aerobics again. Then we were given tops to try ...

The journey was so uncomfortable on the bad road just bouncing around in the back of the truck! We used our rucksacks to save our bottoms ...

... for the gasket. When it became obvious that the Minsk had no quick fix after two hours of waiting around it was obvious we were stuck here for another night. I went and found the mechanic to get the gasket sorted out hoping all the bikes would be ship shape the next day. An hour later I was joined at the bigger mechanic by the Minsk and it turned out to be a simple spark plug problem not the piston as the first guy had ignorantly said. By this time I think Dave had become ...

        THAT bus journey

... give up on the bus and wave down another lift. Having no idea where we are, we stick it out. Eventually, daylight burns out, and the guys beckon us back on the bus as they've done the best they could: we are told the last 100km will be taken very slow. We are lucky that there is a Vietnamese guy on our bus who speaks pretty good English who is in the same predicament as us- arriving in Savannakhet at a stupid hour at night with nowhere to stay. It dawns on ...
