Check "climb the falls" off our bucket list

... We had to get back to the bus in 15 minutes, took 30 minutes. LUCKILY the bus waited for us. We didn’t get to buy anything there. Then like, 30 minutes ago, I went to the surfing thing… BAH the instructor was kinda crabby. Oh! And you know how you always think of "yeah man" when you think of Jamaicans? Well it’s actually a word in their language! It’s “Yahman” which DOES mean basically Yeah man. Soo ya dats about it bii!

No!! We don't want a taxi....

... were really keen for sales. We just bought some sunscreen and came back on board the ship. We all went back to the H2O zone and enjoyed the relatively empty pool area.

It was another incredibly hot day so it was very relaxing to just kick back and hang out by the pool. Now THIS is a holiday!!

After dinner we put the girls to bed and went watch the show.

Port of Call for the big cruise ship

Ocho is an interesting city, divided by a straight line, on one side (from the center to the port), relatively safe area day and night, upscale boutique, restaurants and on the other side, the chaos and not so safe area. There are a few hundreds meters of beachfront.

Jamaica

We arrived at Ocho Rios, Jamaica on Tuesday after two days at sea. The last two days at sea had been filled with good times and it had been smooth sailing. We looked out from our balcony and thought how beautiful the waters and port were. The weather was sunny with some clouds and the day would be pleasantly warm. We had planned a shore excursion of going on a zip-line through the ...

Italian Charm with a Caribbean vibe.

... resort with a lot of peace and quiet, you may want to consider someplace else. But if you are into the fun party atmosphere this is a great choice.
In keeping with the Italian theme, Sandals has brought in some great evening entertainment including Cuban Dancers and even a Jamacian opera singer named Rorie. I was skeptical at first, but it works and people love him. He's also a good friend, and fellow diver. You won't be able ...

Jamaica!!

... but be aware, this could happen to you!! How you get to the top is fun also. You get in a line with a group of people and hold each other's hands and quite literally pull each other up the falls. This part is not easy because the water is very cold and falls extremely fast!! Don't worry though, if you have a nice person pulling you, they won't let you fall too ...

Give Thanks

... like my life right now, as it is in Jamaica as a Peace Corps volunteer. I have a lot of flexibility with my job assignment, allowing me time to come and go as I please. I love those days that I just work at home, at my own pace, in the comfort of my space, and not to mention I make better coffee than the office. (Side note: Jamaica makes world class coffee, Blue Mountain, but the Jamaicans drink the instant coffee, yuck. I understand why, but it doesn't make sense to me.) I am ...

I Came. I Saw. I LEFT!

This was a horrible nasty little place I hope to never see again. When you walk down the street, it is filthy and taxi drivers nag at you and then throw insults when you refuse to take a taxi. I Came. I Saw. I LEFT! One almost saving feature of this hideous place was swimming in the water, but even that turned south when I felt what I believe to be a sewer pipe under my feet.

We took a tour of a rum plantation, then did the walk up the waterfalls thing. In town I was offered lots of drugs and picked up a bottle of overproof rum that Brady and I would use the light our campfire the next week. :D Left port late in the day around the east tip of Cuba then back to Miami. I remember when we were rounding the tip of Cuba the ship listed massively. I never heard any explanation. I guess everybody else was too drunk to notice.
