Socialized Medicine Ain't Cheap

Yesterday I felt myself becoming sick as my throat became tighter and tighter. By tonight it was really sore and I was worried I might be coming down with Strep or a sinus infection at the least. Wanting to make sure that I would be able to fly home for the weekend, I inquired at the hotel if there was a walk-in type of clinic anywhere. They directed me to one and I went there tonight.

Upon arrival I checked in at the reception desk where the receptionist spoke a little English and han...

Baptism in Jurassic Park

... br>
On the shore, I asked a blessing on the c**emony, and we undressed down to our swimwear and T-shirts. The rain had stopped momentarily and the sun brightened the sky, though it didn’t fully pi**ce the clouds. It was an idyllic and calm spot, if chilly, a beautiful and memorable place to officially start a Christian life. Aft** the baptism, we came back out and dried off quickly. We had the laying-on-of-hands part of the c**emony and ...

J'aime la Bibliotheque

... Well, since this is technically a "third-world development" project, it has come under a little heat by campus critics. (Trust me, I have done my homework, and our project is justified, I even took the project to my "Anthropology of Development" course and asked them to rip it apart, and it still came out justified.) But, I have decided to frame my paper as justifying building the school in the framework of human rights and ...

... other five weeks earlier in Normandy. Usually the times between visits are much longer, so this was a real treat.

About 1:00 we sang some hymns together and I gave a Bible Study/sermon about why the Bible contains prophecies and key threads running through them. Then we continued talking over a "snack:" a flute of French champagne, bread and grisons meat (very thinly sliced beef, lightly salted, spiced and air dried - a Swiss specialty), goat cheese ...

Arrival in Switzerland

... could see the lake off and on as we rode. We left the train at Versoix, and pulled the suitcase a few hundred meters to where the car was parked – the Vernauds used to live here and know where to park for free. Then we drove a few km north to the shopping center at Chavannes where we stopped for lunch.

We caught up on the news over lunch and then drove on to the little village of Trélex, above Nyon. Today we travel for several hours over mountains and past lakes to the shores of Lausanne (not to be confused with Lucerne). Maybe we should have gone to Belgium

... turn my head. Oh well. Guess I will have to shop elsewhere for gifts for my homies back in SF. Rick was wrong, very wrong. Bad Rick. He must have had a bad croissant that day. For dinner, we tried to find a place in Old Town to enjoy a local style dinner. Brian was hungry, and you know that gives you a five minute window to get him relief. To delay the inevitable grumpiness, I introduced him to Belgium waffles from a street vendor. He ...

Serenity and Sunshine in Lausanne

Ah, back home now, got to Ashford International at about 4pm UK time yesterday after leaving Lausanne at 9am so quite a long journey and meant I missed a day of more glorious weather, but still the whole time I was in Lausanne it couldn't have been nicer. It was fantastic to go out in my flipflops and not take a coat and scarf out with me; it really was a great little place to end my trip and the sunshine was the icing on the cake. Lausanne like Zermatt and I think ...

... Alot but Mastercard'll take care of it for me. Hope I don't run outta $! Damn, I'm hungry. Dinner's only at 6:30pm. I'm bored. As much as I like to get out on my own sometimes, this isn't one of those times. At least there's not 4 people trying to make a decision and maybe that's all that counts. My decision, easily made, is to stop writing. Chris 5:52pm
