bahrain airport - just a change of plane

Out of the widow Bahrain looks like lots of dust with skyscrapers on. Inside it is a strange mix of Christmas decorations lots of tour groups who look like they might be going on pilgramage, 25k rolexes in duty free, mcdonalds, costa and free internet to keep us amused. We've got 2hrs to kill - body clocks already out of sink! Am going to try and learn some nepalese from a podcast.

Desert Bus Ride from Al Khobar(Dammam) to Jeddah

... lap of the journey was very picturesque, with a totally different desert scenario. It was basically a mountainous desert terrain. The highway took us along myriad ranges, and at one point I even saw a plateau out yonder.

It was at around 3:30PM that we finally cruised into Jeddah, and I saw Manoj had come to receive me. Well, he and his family looked after me and gave a great time, and Jeddah was a great city................... but that would be another story- a story of a city!

And back to Dubai!

Not much - just waiting at the airport for the flight! Bahrain was both nicer and more boring than I thought, the weather is a lot more forgiving but it's not worth more than about 3 days exploration tops.. Unless you like to get really nittygritty :P
Tales From The Sand Box - Episode 4

... port in the Gulf. While Iraq does have coastal ports, none of them are accessible by these behemoth tankers. Therefore, these two oil terminals are critical to the new Iraqi governments plans to rebuild the country on the proceeds of oil sales. So with all that in mind I am sure you can see how much of an appetising target these terminals make to the insurgents and terrorist organisations trying to destabilise Iraq. Our job is made more difficult in that the waters around these two ...

A day on the town

... and congest the entire city with their traffic. Thank you, Saudi Arabia for making me a slightly more bitter person. 4. Like many Gulf States, Bahrain is making strides in virtually everything. 5. There are Sunni/Shia tensions. 6. It was very windy the day I was there, which was the remnant of a fierce sandstorm in Saudi and Kuwait. I guess this is still very boring. I'll try to improve it when I put my pictures up.

Drag Races: Bahrain

The Phoenix Productions show was on the back of a moving truck at the newly world-renowned Bahrain Grand Prix circuit, The deal was at least 5 shows per night and we had to be on call at all times in the case of an a major crash or even minor oil slick on the drag track. It was a pretty tough gig and now I know what it feels like to be a doctor ...
