The day after... Get everything out of the car, get it ready to go directly to Rio for the South America Challenge starting on Feb 14th. In between we arranged for it to be serviced in Thailand... Missed breakfast which is unusual for me. Walked down the main shopping drag. We were looking for lunch when a disheveled old man staggered and collapsed in front of us. I was first to him but a more useful lady who could speak Portuguese was next. He rolled over and had a bleeding gash in his forehead. An ambulance was called and the lady calmed him and pressed the wound . I helped him into a chair but that's all. The way he fell is what worried me the ...

... I got tongue, tripe, fat, skin, bone and sausage in a bean and tomato sauce. I got through most of it, it didn't taste bad per say but it was hard to eat. Bit of a walk, bit of a siesta and then we geared up for the pub crawl. It was probably the highest level of involvement I've seen a hostel get. Viana do Castelo
Stayed the night in Viano De Castelo south of Valenca. The town has many cobbled streets which was hard going in the van with the ****** suspension. Most of the cupboard doors stayed closed.Drove up the hill above Viano to a large gothic church that looked down on the town below. What a view from the top though. You can see down the coast to Porto. The place reminded me of a similar church in Turin located up on the hill above the city. Both had a funicular running to the top.

... and there are a lot of them.) Porto is where port wine originated so we wanted to go to a port winery while here. Once our feet were nice and tired from walking up and down hills all day, we found a port place that served chocolate with the port. That was the one I wanted to check out!
