... solstice sun coming into the chamber it was cool. How they lined everything up is amazing. The rock carvings were nifty too. All spirals and abstract geometric designs that no one knows the meaning behind. We've bought several books on these things, so we'll be ready to tell everyone about them when we get home.

Today we left the River Shannon valley and the Midlands for Drogheda in the east.

Our first stop was Clonmacnoise, a monastic settlement founded in 544 AD. Most of the building are of course ruins and there is a large graveyard surrounding them.
