A fortnight in Tunisia. First week was sunbathing in lovely mid twenties of heat, second week was wet and cold coat wearing weather. Some day trips to El Djem and with Mam to Dougga in the Mountains. we had snow and floods on the way home and were stranded with a river running through the luggage compartment of the coach and 5 hours late returning to the hotel. Due to surviving actual physical peril, the bus driver made an absolute fortune in tips that evening. very interesting holiday.

... Marrakesh was fun getting lost in. The Djemaa El Fna, or square outside the medina souks, was busy, busy, busy. Its flute music, snake charmers, henna painters, food stands, and labyrinthine alleyways make it a fascinating place.
There is not much in Morocco as far as Roman Ruins are concerned but the color of the countryside more than made up for this.
Another great trip! We know we are so lucky.
... the availability of alcohol is restricted, and you might encounter restaurants that don’t offer alcohol. We never experienced a total alcohol-free place, but several restaurants we came across didn’t serve anything stronger than beer. So if you would like a nice glass of wine with your food you might want to check if they serve it before you enter the restaurant, or you might get an unpleasant surprise when you’re about to ...
Port El Kantaoui, Tunisia mila_olive... in the burbs. Finding it was difficult, and involved a long taxi ride. Both restaurants are spectacular, however, and I know the group will be pleased. Returning to Tunis, my guide takes me to some amazing viewpoints in the Medina, and shows me a classic hammam where I intend to get a scrub and a rub in the morning. I return to the hotel and ring up some of the guys who have arrived already. Not many ...
Tunis, Tunisia wareameye... resident... I still haven't gone to Medina, but that'll be the agenda for this afternoon. I don't have much money left, so I don't think i'll buy any souvenirs. For the most part, souvenirs are red Tunisian caps, tiled mosaics, and postcards. The tiled mosaics are pretty cool, but as usual heavy and very fragile. The train to Sidi Bou Said and Carthage is rather convenient. It only takes 30 minutes to get there and costs 650 millemes ...
Tunis, Tunisia tototheturtle... food (couscous, stew, omelet or faux pizza), the "social segregation" of men and women, and being woken up before dawn everyday to the call to prayer. So needless to say, I was excited (an understatement) about going to the airport and flying to Tunisia (read: beach resort). Once we landed in Tunisia, we had an interesting cultural experience at passport control, which should be renamed passport out-of-control, because it was freaking mayhem! Now ...
Tunis, Tunisia globedecker... and Bedouin competitions. It fell in December when we were there. Countless ruins and remnants of ancient civilizations, beach side towns, old medinas, ornate mosques, museums, oases, dates, camel safari, salt seas, underground dwellings, Bedouin forts, sand storms and friendly smiles. It's a wonderful land.
