      Good Overnight Stay

      Reviewed May 10, 2014

We stayed here for one night in May 2014 as part of our planned Canadian Rockies tour. We had originally planned to stay here on the way back from Jasper but had cancelled that leg of the holiday and stayed additional nights in Banff but still wanted to stay here, for the experience.
The weather was still cold and there was some overnight snow high up so we did not encounter any problems with no air con. The heaters worked fine. We chose the lodge because we were self driving and wanted somewhere with breakfast, wifi and laundry so we could keep in contact and also wash clothes and minimise the amount of meals we needed to purchase.
The Mountaineer Lodge fit the bill nicely for us and we had no complaints and based on our experience would stay there again and recommend to others.

Lake Louise is an iconic Rocky Mountains location and its views are world famous. We were there in May 2014.

We had seen the lake, the village and the Fairmont Chateau earlier in the week as part of a tour of the Columbia Icefields with Brewsters and were glad to be quite familiar with the area.

The lake and the chateau are …

Daarna doorgereden …

... weekend is the busiest weekend all year for tourists. We followed the walking trail from our car down towards the lake which had canoe rentals on one side and the Fairmount Hotel on the other . Little red canoes speckled the lake as relatives and friends stood on the shoreline snapping away photographs that I am sure will make the cut for this years Christmas cards as the background landscape was stunning if you were able to lift ...

This morning we made our way to Minniewanka Lake the only hydroelectric dam in Canada. We had a giggle at the name...

Our next scenic stop was a quick one at Twojack lake. So many lakes! And they are all so beautiful. The lakes are currently not as clear as they were a few weeks back due to the run off from the melting snow - it picks up dirt and sand etc and this is why the lakes currently have a very milky appearance.

      After a quick ...

... and we paddled around for an hour going to the far side of the lake where you could still look up at the top of the mountains and see huge areas of snow. Crazy to be in the late 20's on the lake and look up to the snow! There was a run off into the lake causing a small steam/waterfall as well, you often see these where the water runs off the about mountain springs!
The water in the lake was pretty cold....I don't think you could have ...
