      Good Overnight Stay

      Reviewed May 10, 2014

We stayed here for one night in May 2014 as part of our planned Canadian Rockies tour. We had originally planned to stay here on the way back from Jasper but had cancelled that leg of the holiday and stayed additional nights in Banff but still wanted to stay here, for the experience.
The weather was still cold and there was some overnight snow high up so we did not encounter any problems with no air con. The heaters worked fine. We chose the lodge because we were self driving and wanted somewhere with breakfast, wifi and laundry so we could keep in contact and also wash clothes and minimise the amount of meals we needed to purchase.
The Mountaineer Lodge fit the bill nicely for us and we had no complaints and based on our experience would stay there again and recommend to others.

      Iconic Lake Louise

Lake Louise is an iconic Rocky Mountains location and its views are world famous. We were there in May 2014.

We had seen the lake, the village and the Fairmont Chateau earlier in the week as part of a tour of the Columbia Icefields with Brewsters and were glad to be quite familiar with the area.

The lake and the chateau are …

Daarna doorgereden …

On the morning of our second day at Skoki we awoke (well three of us did) to the breakfast bell at 8 am and a meal at the lodge table of porridge, fruit, cherry and almond scones and coffee. Everything we ate while at Skoki was amazing. We knew it would be good because when we hiked in yesterday we met people hiking back down who raved about it to us.

Having been mostly just the five of us since we left home, it was really good to meet other people and talk. ...

The beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains! It's so beautiful here, everything looks like a postcard! Banff Village, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, the entire 280km drive from Banff to Jasper, Colombian Icefields and the huge Athabasca Glacier, Saskatchewan Crossing... They call it "The most beautiful road in the world" and it's not difficult to see why. We were a bit dumbfounded as there was NO wildlife apart from a few black bears and osprey, a bit disappointing ...

... eagle flying and heard some wolves howling across the lake (where we had just been).

The next guide took us to Lake Louise and Yoho National Park. This time we saw a magnificent bull elk, a couple of lady elks with a baby. Checked out the Johnston waterfalls, saw some animal crossing bridges and tunnels (the highway is fenced off, so that animals don't get run over, so they had to build bridges and tunnels for them to ...
