Lake Louise is an iconic Rocky Mountains location and its views are world famous. We were there in May 2014.

We had seen the lake, the village and the Fairmont Chateau earlier in the week as part of a tour of the Columbia Icefields with Brewsters and were glad to be quite familiar with the area.

The lake and the chateau are …

Daarna doorgereden …

... The lake was freezing though. We then returned home to pack & prepare for Skoki lodge... Not so sure about Skoki, i mean it has NO WIFI man! How will i survive? And it has no electricity! That's not even possible! And an 11km walk? You can't be serious! But you know, i guess in the end we will love it... I hope.. So we probably won't be updating this for a couple of days.

Thanks,

... CR-V. The best way to get around Canada is to drive so we decided to invest in a bit of a run around for the next six months. Very pleased to have some wheels!

The month before we left we had a lovely long term cat staying in the cattery called Chocolate.....he was part wild cat and absolutely beautiful and very friendly! One of my favourites along with Olaf!

We spotted a few more swift foxes and Matt took some left over chicken bones ...

... Larches are coniferous trees but not evergreens, rather deciduous: their needle-like leaves turn yellow in autumn and fall off. We also identified the cones of black spruce among the other spruce trees and kinnikinnick, a.k.a. common bearberry, growing low on the ground. It's bear country, and black and grizzly bears are bulking up for the winter. Having stopped in at the Wildlife Interpretive Centre, we were informed we'd have ...

    Good Overnight Stay

We stayed here for one night in May 2014 as part of our planned Canadian Rockies tour. We had originally planned to stay here on the way back from Jasper but had cancelled that leg of the holiday and stayed additional nights in Banff but still wanted to stay here, for the experience.
The weather was still cold and there was some overnight snow high up so we did not encounter any problems with no air con. The heaters worked fine. We chose the lodge because we were self driving and wanted somewhere with breakfast, wifi and laundry so we could keep in contact and also wash clothes and minimise the amount of meals we needed to purchase.
The Mountaineer Lodge fit the bill nicely for us and we had no complaints and based on our experience would stay there again and recommend to others.
