    Good Overnight Stay

We stayed here for one night in May 2014 as part of our planned Canadian Rockies tour. We had originally planned to stay here on the way back from Jasper but had cancelled that leg of the holiday and stayed additional nights in Banff but still wanted to stay here, for the experience.
The weather was still cold and there was some overnight snow high up so we did not encounter any problems with no air con. The heaters worked fine. We chose the lodge because we were self driving and wanted somewhere with breakfast, wifi and laundry so we could keep in contact and also wash clothes and minimise the amount of meals we needed to purchase.
The Mountaineer Lodge fit the bill nicely for us and we had no complaints and based on our experience would stay there again and recommend to others.

Lake Louise is an iconic Rocky Mountains location and its views are world famous. We were there in May 2014.

We had seen the lake, the village and the Fairmont Chateau earlier in the week as part of a tour of the Columbia Icefields with Brewsters and were glad to be quite familiar with the area.

The lake and the chateau are …

Daarna doorgereden …

... lesson involved learning that the first manager of the Lake itself was from Cornwall and came over in the 19th century. Hence one of the biggest peaks surrounding the Lake is called Mount St Piran (our Cornish Saint).

The rest of the day we spent Mountie spotting (we bagged one!) and booking our Cable car trip for tomorrow. A further splash in the hotel pool this afternoon and a particularly gratifying game of hairy pairy fairy took ...

The next morning we went for a hike up the side of Lake Louise to Agnes' Tea House.

It was a long slow uphill incline and after the first kilometer we were struggling. Thought we were

Having not made the most of the stunning hotel yesterday evening, because we only arrived at 9pm, we were determined to today. That started with a good swim in their huge 33m pool, and a relax in the jacuzzi.

We then headed up to the Banff gondola, and went up to the top of the Sulphur Mountain (7500 feet or 2290 metres). This gave some great views, although it was seriously cold and snowed whilst we were there! We shared ...
