    Good Overnight Stay

We stayed here for one night in May 2014 as part of our planned Canadian Rockies tour. We had originally planned to stay here on the way back from Jasper but had cancelled that leg of the holiday and stayed additional nights in Banff but still wanted to stay here, for the experience.
The weather was still cold and there was some overnight snow high up so we did not encounter any problems with no air con. The heaters worked fine. We chose the lodge because we were self driving and wanted somewhere with breakfast, wifi and laundry so we could keep in contact and also wash clothes and minimise the amount of meals we needed to purchase.
The Mountaineer Lodge fit the bill nicely for us and we had no complaints and based on our experience would stay there again and recommend to others.

Lake Louise is an iconic Rocky Mountains location and its views are world famous. We were there in May 2014.

We had seen the lake, the village and the Fairmont Chateau earlier in the week as part of a tour of the Columbia Icefields with Brewsters and were glad to be quite familiar with the area.

... that when you look at the pictures, you will be as amazed as we were to hear that such attractive rooms are, for the most part, in their original state!! While I could go on and on about the lodge's character, check out some of the pictures attached to get a real flavor. But, before I leave the topic of our lodge, let me share an especially amazing discovery - While talking with Peter yesterday, Mary learned that their parents may have stayed here at the Deer Lodge ...

The rest of the day we spent Mountie spotting (we bagged one!) and booking our Cable car trip for tomorrow. A further splash in the hotel pool this afternoon and a particularly gratifying game of hairy pairy fairy took ...

... sun shone on the spray, very pretty.

As we continued our journey we were surrounded the whole time by the majestic, snow-topped mountains. We learned that the Canadian Rockies are all layered, sedimentary rock which was, at one time, under the ocean. We drove along past The Endless Chain, at 17km it is the longest unbroken ridge line in the Canadian Rockies, named by Mary Schaffer who was an early artist, naturalist and explorer in this area.
