... in Morganton and headed north on NC-181. In about 17 miles, we turned left on Forest Road 228 and proceeded to the end. Although this road seemed pretty remote, there were a lot of people camping at the spots near the end. After parking, we got our stuff ready and started hiking the Steels Creek Trail (#237). The trail was a continuation of the road for about a quarter-mile to a nice swimming hole below ...

For the Independence Day Weekend, we headed out to the Wilson Creek area again for some more waterfall fun. Friday, we spent the day in Raleigh and went to Sandy’s parents for a cookout. Then very early Saturday morning, we headed out to Wilson Creek, arriving at the Lost Cove Trailhead on FR-981 right at 9 o’clock. We were meeting Josh and Marissa and the dogs, who had camped there the night before. They were arriving ...

Monday morning, we woke up and broke camp. When we had everything packed up, we got on NC-181 and started heading south about 12 miles past the Blue Ridge Parkway. Here, we turned left onto FR 982 and went about a mile and a half, turning left on another forest road (not sure the number of this one) and went about 2 miles upstream alongside Upper Creek. There are several great primitive campsites along this road and not surprisingly, all ...

... continued a short ways and found a very steep and difficult path to bushwhack down to her at the base of the falls. We got some pictures from here and then bushwhacked back up to the trail and then made our way back to the car. From here, we continued on the forest road to NC-90 in Edgemont and then got on Brown Mountain Beech Road at Mortimer and drove to the trailhead for Harper Creek Trail (#260). The small roadside parking ...

... you. Its pretty cool. Lets just say that I (Dylan) spent ages throwing leaves over the edge so that they would blow back to me and getting them to hover in the air in front of me whilst trying to record it on video. The Next morning we drove out to the "Seven Devils" summit to go Zip Lining through the ski resort area near Banner Elk. Sam took a bit of convincing but once strapped into the harness and she did the first zip she was loving it. The Zip course had 9 lines that ran ...
