Kootenay Lake and Nelson

By this stage in our trip we needed to keep moving back towards Vancouver so it was a day of driving the next day, from Kimberley through Cranbrook and Creston to lovely Kootenay Lake. The road hugs the lake, so it was a nice drive - and we saw another coyote, this time more clearly as it crossed the road in front of us. We caught the ferry across Kootenay Lake to Balfour and drove part way up the western side to Ainsworth Hot Springs. We'd heard they were the best hot springs around because ...

Kootenay Lake

... Halt einzulegen.

Hot,Hot, Hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!

... are translucent and grow in little clusters. Every walk revealed something new and if it wasn't so hot we probably would have walked more.
We didn't know until the day we were leaving that Huckleberries grow prolifically in this area or we would have endured the heat to pick some .....they are so delicious!
In the spot the deer picture there is only the shadow of his head visible ...

Summertime, and the living is easy...

... one of my favourite quotes of the day..."Yep, I think I'm gonna buy me a motorcycle too. Mebbe just a little 250. I don't really want a motorcycle...but I think mebbe I'm gonna buy one just to **** off my woman!" Hahahaaaa...cracked me up, that old man :-) Thank-you! We rumbled outta there, cooled by the mountain stream, and also by the drizzling rain (rain!) that started to fall. We didn't even get enough to get wet, but it helped with the heat a little. I had a problem ...

Hippies, hemp and handwoven hoodies... it's Nelson

Got the Greyhound from Kelowna into Nelson late last night, but still had a little time to look around. In the stunning setting of the west arm of Kootenay Lake, the city of Nelson sits largely unoffensively in the valley on the South-Eastern lakeshore. I use the word 'city' here loosely, as it is technically a city, but with a population of 9,000 it's not exactly epic by European standards.

There was a complete lack of franchises in the downtown area, which i guess is done ...

Nelson, we will miss you so.

... take a walk into a town that feels like our own, and spend the entire day studying. While Eileen was studying her school work, there was constant research to be searched... Many a new fact and essential knowledge was discovered in this two weeks. As well, I finally had the time to tackle the mysterious world of "video editing"... I put together some footage and pictures from our time here in Nelson (from ...

Into the Kootney's

We just passed from Alberta into British Columbia and the sun is tiptoeing over the horizon. She kisses the very tips of the mountain tops brightening their color into soft shade of pink. The wedding of the lush green pines and soft beige sandy giant rocks remind me how spectacular nature's pallet is. I rested deeply while Joey drove all through the night bringing us safely into the light of ...

JULIE FINALLY WINS

... He was referring, probably, to how I'd gone out to try and earn money selling golf balls while we stayed at his house. I'd made our first enemy of the trip. A lot of people in Canada had told us how we were going to love being "out West" so much. But, this negative experience was just: THE WEST IS WACK, EVIDENCE # 1 - Brian, our WWOOF host, was a wacko. Brian could've said something to me earlier if he'd had a problem with my golf ball excursions ...
