... police officers! The place is quite touristy, as it's the outlet to Los Llanos (the plains), the centre of ecotourism adventures, the starting point for hikes, and home of the longest teleferico in the world (indefinitely the longest non-working teleferico in the world). Subsequently, it feels relatively safe here, and we are comfortable straying out to certain locations after dark. Food is easy to find, and we have enjoyed food off of the streets ...

Merida, Andes, Venezuela nic.lachapelle... prices. In Venezuela prices rivaled the US (a banana was 70 cents! How? they grow everywhere?) except the gas which ran about 50 liters for less than a dollar (13 cents a US gallon)! Once again the border officials were relatively kind to me after a few Bush cracks (they were merely in jest though, no hostility) and I was on my way to Santa Marta. Merida, Andes, Venezuela itsbob21... money...anti-credit...and had the view that extreme poverty doesn´t exist...Spiritual happiness is there for anyone who wants it. It was impressive the way she lived...and her family seemed very satisfied and happy. But I guess not everyone in the world has access to a plot of land to cultivate and live off from....and not everyone wants to achieve satisfaction through spiritual means. Shortly afterwards her husband joined us in the porch...and ...
Merida, Venezuela sheenasumaria... to Maracaibo is interesting in itself and we stopped off at couple of places along the way. The most interesting of all was the vulture hang-out, on the cliff above the river where they perch in bad taste on someone's shrine (not actually a grave but it looks like one), and where we had a great view of them wheeling around below and above us. Also present was a road-side hawk with red wings. One interesting aspect of this fairly damp area, where the ...
Merida, Venezuela mlc... asi 20 stredoskolakov te da ticha nebola, ale aspon cesta ubiehala rychlejsie. Rano okolo 9:00 sme vystupili na Autobusovej stanici v Meride, kde sa nas ujal anglicky hovoriaci (velka vzacnost) chlapik, ktory nas taxikom zobral so Posady pre ktoru pracoval oko sprievodca. Merida, Venezuela branimirWe jump in a cab outside the bus station and ask to be taken to the hostel we had picked out of the LP. We hadn´t booked in advance, thinking it wouldn´t be that busy.. However school boy error made once again as upon arrival we were told that they were full. We wandered around the corner to a couple of other hostels, again to be told "No Hay Habitación" - or no rooms at the inn.. ****.. What were we going to do. We dumped the bags and Rachel ...
Merida, Venezuela kevandrach... to do it right back, I mean, it could´ve went on forever, or at least until the sun rose I guess. Anyway, that´s what the stilted house in front of Omar´s reminded me of. Say you`re Omar, your great-great-great grandfather built a house with prime lightning viewing location and then someone rolls into the neighbourhood and builds their house right in front of yours. You`re looking on, powerless, as this stilted house ...
Merida, Venezuela woodluck... that the prices here are even sillier than Caracas. Bottles of beer for about 18 pence and a nice bottle of rum for less than 2 pounds!!! You could get cheaper but I think rotgut would be too kind a term for them. Back at the Posada we settled into the hammocks on the roof terrace. I had a book to read and Lea was updating her diary. At first some gentle rain began to fall which quickly got harder and was joined by some thunder and lightning. The ...
