Picking up our rental car in Zakynthos town was considerably less dramatic than our Santorini experience - thank goodness!

We were soon out of the main town and heading north to the port of St Nicholas (winter population c.30!) Zakynthos is famous or its coastal scenery, but our cruise did not offer a tour like the one we planned for ourselves - something which astonished us.

We are in the Port of Argostoli, which is the capital of the island of Kefalonia and the Ithaka Islands. After the towns of Oia and Fira on Santorini it is a let down. The streets are full of closed, vacant businesses and graffiti. A lot of the buildings have concrete cancer, due to the high salinity. When we got up the sun was shining all the way to our bed. It was beautiful, the view was fabolous. I was enjoying it for a little while, than we got dressed and went down eating our breakfast.
