... because of the water eddies affecting us. Thank goodness we had the tide with us and not against us too!! When we turned on to the Spui, it was not supposed to have a tidal flow and if it did it should have been with us, BUT it did have a flow and was quite strong against us! This section is manually controlled and normally has a flow going north, and by jove it did, but not as much as the Oude Maas.

We made it a short day by stopping ...

... the Netherlands observed a minute silence as the aircraft carrying 40 victims of Flight MH17 touched down south of here at Eindhoven Airport. They telecast this live on TV. Very sad occasion. It was good to see that the Dutch treated all the caskets with the dignity and respect they deserved. Good to see the RAAF (Aussie Air Force) helping with the repatriation. Dinner was taken at a nearby pub, lamb, steak and beer, ...

Today we walked NE to Klinkenbergerplas , a large lake that has swimming beaches for both people and dogs ( separate areas) . We walked back over the Oegstgeester Canal to LangeVoort shops for coffee where I finally got to sample Appeltaart.. we stopped at teh bakery for bread rolls for lunch and headed home..The weather has been very kind with blue skies , fresh breeze and warm sun.
