Made it to Munich!

A travel blog entry by gisworqer

We had a good trip from Rothenburg to Munich with only a small incident. While waiting for a train in Steinach, an Italian lady started asking all of us if she was reading the information board correctly (in German) that the train we were waiting for wasn't coming. At all. Turned out she was reading it just fine. But we had the luxury of a rail …

We landed on Friday, 13th at around 10am. It was cold when we arrived and rained on and off most of the day. We were able to check into our hotel right away, which was very convenient. Marienplatz was just about a 10 minute walk from our hotel, so we walked there first. We went inside Petersckirche, and also climbed the 208 steps to the top! …

Day 1-4 Melbourne, Abu Dhabi, Munich

Day 1: Leave melbourne at 11:05pm to 14 hour trip to Abu Dhabi. Stop at airport for around 2 hours. Horrible airport and toilet experience for Matt. A place which we both would happily never go again. Plane to Munich from Abu Dhabi much better experience for 6 hours. Flying into -3 degrees and snow covered ground compared to the sandy desert of Abu …

Day 9: Vienna to Munich

... decided on a different day when I get to Munich, I'm going to visit Dachau. I know it sounds odd, it should not be called tourism but I have always been interested in visiting one of the camps ever since an Uncle of mine told me about his short time in Belsen during the war. He wasn't there for religious reasons, he was a Methodist, and was in a separate camp for military prisoners of war. He joined the Territorials before the war as they ...

The biggest moment for me came when I read that of the 6 million Jews “exterminated”, 1.5 million were children. Kids that had no choice in their religion. Born into it. And because they could not be worked to death, they were shipped off to gas chambers and immediately eliminated. What started as detention for political prisoners (it happens today ...

The Sendlinger Tor location is fabulous. So close to many restaurants and within walking distance to everything! Also, right next to the metro. The neighborhood is cute, and even though you are in next to places that tend to get loud at night, you can't hear a thing!
