The Cathedral took 632 years to complete. During the war, 90% of the central city was destroyed. Eau de cologne was originated here in 1709 by the Farina family. They have excavated the Jewish settlement a little more than on my last trip and plan to open an underground museum within 2 years. We visited 7 Christmas markets as the weather was nice. Low 40s and breezy. We also went to the chocolate ...

I have to confess I was excited but a little apprehensive having grown up in the 80's and still having the Fawlty Towers jokes buzzing round my head (don't mention the war), I really didn't know what to expect. Bars were dark and played strange music but local beer was very nice. I had to try the typical german shnapps which was actually nice as well.

... in search of our dinner. We were hoping for something that resembled more of a restaurant than a beer hall. As we turned the corner and headed down a street that started off between some building with no retail space it opened to some restaurants. Taxis were coming and going and dropping people off that were clearly dressed for a night out. I was not sure what we stumbled into but two of the establishments were very crowded on the sidewalk tables with ...
