I-80 Day 47
Heading home covered 500 miles today, Seen lots of I-80 and mountain passes. The country is beautiful but don't think I would want to live there (150 miles from anywhere and 50 from the mailbox).
The drive from Cheyenne to Laramie...
... semi off the side of the road - the trailer had split in half and the payload was everywhere in the snow.)
To top off our day, it started snowing again as we were going over Elk Mountain Pass, so we decided to stop in Rawlins and call it a day. Good move again - it's freezing cold out again and snowing west of Rawlins. Hope tomorrow brings more sun and a little warming.

Rains on the US plains and MAN does the wind blows
Started out @ the cracko dawn ... left our hotel @ 6:40am and got back on Hwy 80. First stop was Winterset & the birthplace (home) of John Wayne. Niiiiice! We made our way through many, many, MANY miles of flat farmland ... the most interesting thing to me was what the heck was on the tanker trucks (see photos). We DID visit the first Pony Express Office ... ...
Wyoming
Today we drove across the southern part of Wyoming. In our drive we saw lots of antelope and lots of snow fences. Although we did not have any snow, we did have very cold weather. The past five days has seen a wide variation in weather for us. We had absolutely beautiful weather on the Oregon coast, then we went to two days of over 100 degrees in Los Angeles, and finally to Wyoming with a temperature ...
The little engine that could... and other stories
... the Fort Laramie National Historic Site around 10 a.m. We spent a couple of hours there, reading about its history as a trading post and way point on the pony express and trying to imagine what life mus have been like there in the min-1800s.
