Randi woke up at 4AM at the rest area and started driving. I slept. We shared driving and resting as we crossed Nebraska and Wyoming. Our only stops were rest areas. We could not take any more rest areas, so a Best Western in the middle of nowhere ...
Rock Springs, Wyoming, United States reneltrek... a hurry to get into the Fort, I tried to scale the wall. Please look at the photo to see what a pain in the rear it is to scale the wall. Yesterday I spotted a Tesla on the road. It is the first one I ever saw. It is the first all-electric car available in America and costs about $100,000. Rock Springs is a real ...
Rock Springs, Wyoming, United States leonardgrill... that was designed with rounded corners and the corners were made with bricks that had slots designed into each brick. Very ingenious, but it made me wonder how the farmers keep the rodents out of the corn in the crib. All day so far the highway had been climbing slowly, and by the time I reached Wyoming, and especially Cheyenne, I felt as though I was on the top of the world. Before that even, I felt at home when I saw real mountains again with snow on top! I even drove ...
Rock Springs, Wyoming, United States rvrladypat... one, I thought perhaps the people had large birds in an outside aviary. Then, I began to notice more of them, and couldn't figure out what they were but didn't think there would be that many people with outdoor aviaries. Then I saw some small barn-like structures with open slots between the boards on the sides and figured out they were corn cribs for storing dried corn on the cob for later feeding. And, I saw one corn crib that was made from some kind of brick or white stone ...
Rock Springs, Wyoming, United States rvrladypat... to see the Abe Lincoln statute, but it was so cold and windy that I was the only one there. You might ask, why is Abe Lincoln standing over I-80. The answer is that I-80 tracks most of the route of the much older US Route 30. Route 30 is better known as the Lincoln Highway and is the first road to cross the entire U.S. Thus, you will find many Linclon Highway references ...
Rock Springs, Wyoming, United States leonardgrill... all but one sleezy motel were full so we had to drive even farther to get to Green River, Wyoming and ended up paying as much for a hotel there as we would have paid in Jackson 4 hours earlier-oh well. We discussed whether to start our trip home or try and get one more destination in and decided to get some sleep and decide the rest of our plan in the morning.
Green River, Wyoming, United States lfont... smallest town. Old simple building with few coin machines, but they are everywhere! Some of them really historical, but still sparkling with their neons, attracting the vampire gamblers. 24-7 pulsating life inside the building, colorful neons put you in trance, 1 cent slot machines hipnotizing you with ...
Rock Springs, Wyoming, United States studioizar... Reserve a hotel room--Arriving at our destination 2 hours later than originally anticipated, we were frustrated/nervous/stressed/bewildered to find that all the hotels off of the suggested exit were full. Apparently in the past two years, Wyoming has seen a gas/oil boom that has attracted many people. So many, in fact, that by 8-9pm each night, hotels are turning people away all of Wyoming and sending them to Utah or ...
