If Mr. Smith Can Go...So can we!

... of 1863, his tail got kicked by the Federal’s General….Meade. Lee got too cocky and it cost him. The carnage alone totaled 31,000 on both sides. The town was just about wiped off the map. After 100 days of burying the dead and clearing body parts quite frankly, Lincoln wanted a national cemetery built to honor those who died. Four months after the battle, he was asked to give a few remarks before the governor spoke, to dedicate the new ...

... into town feeling empowered by our success and surprised at how easy it was....although I think he was scared that she was going to sue. We then headed to the Capitol building for a tour. Our timing was perfect as we only had to wait 10 minutes for our tour. It turned out to be very interesting. The building itself is interesting, about 130 years old and split into many sections, each built in different periods. There is a lot of great art and ...

8th August - Washington D.C

... While a few people complained that it was boring, I loved seeing the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam War and Korean War memorials and the Capitol Building. The monuments looked spectacular under lights!! We even saw some bloke proposing to his girlfriend at the Lincoln Memorial (thankfully for him she said yes!!). By the time we arrived back at the hotel it was about midnight and everyone was ready to hit the sack after a long day.

The Holocost Museum

Lisa and Cindy arrived at Lauren's house in the morning to meet us for a day in Washington DC. I was so excited to get to see Lisa again. Her mad cap adventure intersected with mine perfectly! What we didn't know when we planned a day in DC is that the Pope would be in town. As we pulled up to the train station "LOT FULL" signs were on every entrance. It was time for a plan B. We ended up driving across town to park at ...

... off on a tangent about macroeconomics while talking about things. I like having a tour on the first day because it gets you acquainted with the city and the guide usually has at least some local insight into what you're going around seeing. The other reason I liked the tour is that just about everyone else on the tour was a foreigner and I found it interesting to note what things they were interested in, what things were personal to them, and what things they ...

so far the greatest stressors are simply: why is the Brazilian consulate so clumsy and should we take a hair straightener? Having victoriously conquered the Brazilian consulate, and only mildly miffed about the $100 blurry stamp they call a visa, we must decide upon the hair straightener.... and by decide, I simply mean have the courage to do what we know we must ...

... Ventures, the organization that has been organizing Brio's missions trips for ten years now, already sets up contact with local churches near the areas where they scheduled us to minister at. When these people accepted Christ into their hearts, we would ask them to fill out a card, which would then be given to the local church. These churches will stay in contact with the new believers in their ...

... in the tidal pools, trying to get a video of the little fish that were in there, which looked, to me, like the cyclids that are in fish stores. But the light was too bright for the LCD panel and looking through the camera lens reduced the picture so much, I decided I couldn't get them on film accurately and shut the camera down. I looked up - where had Larry disappeared to? Oh, there he was, still on the bank of the shore which was comprised of ...

I Heart New York

... so much fun seeing all of the things that everyone talks about - Rockefeller Square, Time Square, 5th Ave, etc. We literally just walked block after block, soaking in the atmosphere and looking at all of the Christmas decorations. It definitely got us in the spirit of the season! And what would a trip to New York be without a night on Broadway? The Stagnaros had gotten us a night out and it was amazing ...

the trip

I leave for Rome in less than a week. after that, I'll be in Perugia, then Athens, Naxos, and Santorini, and then back to Italy. My intention in all those places is to do a grand roundup of Western Civilization--from the Greeks to the Romans (like Aeneus) and beyond. Along the way I'll be taking Italian lessons in Perugia and painting painting painting.
