We saw on the news this morning how bad the forest fires are. A fire burnt down a town yesterday. Also there is flash flooding in Utah! Glad we were not camping in Utah now - or driving. Also heard about the sniper shooting at cars in Arizona, so glad to be taking a different route - good to know!!! Apparently today we are on a typical American road trip. We got up early (for me) and were on the road by 7ish and actually have a destination planned for the first time. Denton. Had ...

Really? First I have to drive through hurricane winds on Monday.....Tuesday at least it was only 25-30 mph winds, but here's the kicker. Oklahoma roads have got to be the worst I've had to pull something on in my life....bad, bad, bad. Should I have to add to this? Yep, halfway through Oklahoma on the interstate, this nice $700 basket I had a certified welder put on the back of my RV for me decides to come off....not completely thank God. It ...

This was a long travel day. And since we failed to remember that we would lose an hour, we had to keep moving…no time for dawdling today, and that, unfortunately translates to no photo taking. We left the hotel at 8:15 and 64 degrees under partly cloudy skies and by mid-day the temps had risen to a blazing 106 degrees. This part of the country is having a heat wave!!!! And it looks like tomorrow will be much the same.

... goodbye. It was 1pm when we left to head back to Farmerville. Ran into a thunderstorm, so went from 104 degrees to much cooler and getting drenched. The sunroof began leaking, so water was dripping down all over Marie first, then me. We had plastic bags over our lap s to try to keep dry. When the storm eased we continued on our way and came into a ...

    Into the Great Wide Open

We always knew that Texas was a huge state. That much is obvious. But it seems dauntingly large when you are driving through it. New Orleans to Austin was okay. Houston was gross, but no big deal to get through knowing we had Austin to look forward to. We were trying to map out our route from Austin to Santa Fe, which is quite a hike. I had texted my friend Stacy, who is from Texas, to ...
