Having been here a few years ago for half a day with Dan I always said I'd have to come back and see a bit more. There's this really cool vibe to the place, but can't quite pin point what makes it so.

... for midday so we're not missing too much by not staying at the beach. Tomorrow is supposed to be back in the upper 70s.

We're parked in a church parking lot for tonight and just saw a coyote trot through the parking lot in front of us! That's the first one I've ever seen! No worries, Dave didn't shoot it, ...but he thought about it. I thought it looked kind of cute, and why wasn't it with its pack?

Met up with John in San Jose and said our goodbyes. Hoping to squelch those miles to San Diego.

Took hwy 101. It was traffic for a long while.. Got glimpses of the oceanic oil fields and random "small towns" inland of the coast.

Called Portos ahead of time.. but they were closed :(
Ordered special In N Out menu in Southern Cali, (Santa Maria?) then straight ...

What a First Day

... debate in my mind, I decided this was going to be 'my ride' on this journey.

After a thorough inspection and a bit of tetris-ing (my luggage doesn't quite fit in the boot flat, lol), we are off to my first stop. I navigate my way to T's, thanks to the GPS, and find myself pulling into a lovely little complex. It's Spanish influenced, warm and welcoming (like my friend and her family).

... water and do some of their tricks. Was awesome to be that close to them. I just wish I was able to touch one the would of really made my day. At 2:30pm we headed to the Shamu show One Ocean arena to get ready for the Killer Whale show. Of course we sat in the wet and soak zone about 6 rows up. So I had my big camera out taking photos and had my towel out just to protect the camera. Which I don't need for the first 10 minutes as the water wasn't getting us but ...
