... More (the Sailors), founded in 1913 and four times national champion, including the first championship in 1925, and Spartak (the Falcons), founded in 1918, one time champion and participant in the UEFA Cup in 1983, when it reached ...
Varna, Varna, Bulgaria ronamaltz... the side of the road. By the time we were entering Varna, evening was drawing its darkening curtains around us, Thorsten's left peddle had disintegrated and Elisa's central bearing was creaking disturbingly. We bought a new peddle from a bike shop, some food for dinner from a stall and had a very nice chat with a man who must have been at least ninety. Some spark in his eyes inspired me to want to live that long, we were next to the fruit and veg stall and he kept saying he ...
Varna, Varna, Bulgaria jimmymacfadWe woke up to find ourselves moored at the quay in Varna with a long breakwater wall on which people could walk, a Captain Cook office and fish restaurant in a harbour-side building, and quite a few small vessels tied up nearby.
Our first stop was at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin where there was commerce going on both inside and outside the very ornately decorated building with high walls and domes painted in predominantly ...
I met Albena last Christmas, she is married to Rick Harper a Washington National Guard Soldier and contractor at Fort Lewis. They had had moved from Virgina, and Albena was not yet working and had not met many people.
She grew up in the beautiful coastal city of Varna Bulgaria, and all her family was still ...
A very nice place and quiet resort, is ideal target for family with kids, food and drinks very cheap and the people are friendly. About the security reasons I saw all the time the officers from Security companies -armed- and Police patrols on the street, here you need just to choose the proper location and enjoy the time.
... where the hot, fresh water and the cold(ish) Salty water meet, and the kiddos splash around and the old people soak their bones. Cute. There is also a natural hot bath along at the end of the beach where I went one night for a soak. Its the little things in life.
A strange tradition that we stumbled on in Varna is called July Morning, which is based on a song by Uriah Heap by the same name. Apparently, since the end of communism, everyone in Varna, and along the ...
Arriving in Varna you instantly get the feeling that this is one of those places you are either going to love or hate.
We walked the 1.5km from the bus station to the hostel, still to cheap to catch a taxi.
Shona wanted to leave the Flag hostel as soon as she had arrived. We were greeted at the door by someone, a guest or a member of staff we were not to sure who. OK "greeted" might be ...
... breakfast for the grand total of $24A for the night – bargain! We had lunch and then walked down to the beach via the usual souvenir shops. The specialty here seems to be old fashioned dress-up photos and to have your portrait drawn (they were actually very good). We arrived at the beach and wandered along the water's edge (it was too hot on the sand) past the many umbrellas and chairs set out for rent. We ...
Golden Sands, Varna, Bulgaria souterThe resort complex Zlatni Pjasci, just off the port of Varna was meant to be a school-book example of the superiority of Socialism in everything. People who had never been to France would not even blink saying - it is very much the Croisette of the Black Sea. One needs to dangerously stretch imagination to liken the coast of the Black Sea here with the Med at Cannes, but ...
Varna, Bulgaria gogan... other road users - including my own. This is far less forgivable than driving with fog lights on or poor parking. In Primorsk I found a more snack shops and a pancake seller, as well as a host of shops and a beach. Followed the coast on a delightful road that ran parallel to the main road past small restaurant / hotel / guest houses, beaches, bays and pine woods. Through Kiten and on to Tsarevo where I ...
