A friendly welcome
... d have to traipse over to immigration to get stamped in, an official got on board and asked for documentation. He came down the bus looking at peoples ID and then got to us. He asked us where we'd been whilst studying our passports closely and then said, ok, got off the bus and we headed off. No stamp for El Savador then! Just before heading off a lady got on and gave us all a welcome to El Salvador and a goodie bag containing a map, some leaflets and a water bottle. How nice. ...

... I am semi-retired, working part-time as a marketing consultant, and I am a member of Prince of Peace. This is our third foreign service trip with the prior ones being to Haiti. Working with Habitat for Humanity, Thrivent, and our fellow team members (including our grandson Cameron) to help these needy families in El Salvador is a different and really rewarding experience.

We're not missing New Years too!
... The man at the door of the hostel was so lovely and was asking if we were going to go out and fiesta that night and when we told him we just wanted to eat and go to bed, he boiled some water for our noodles since that was all we could find at that time of night. The beds were on a slant and it was cold but we all (we shared a room with two French guys we met on our mini-van trip there) fell asleep straight away.

First day in San Salvador
... Villa Florencia--which is a small hotel, but clean and pleasant. It is on a busy street, but there are things nearby which are within walking distance. We hadn't had lunch, so we went across the street to Wendy's. We didn't want a big meal, as we were meeting Walter and Magdelina for dinner. I had a Chili and a Cappuchino; both were surprisingly good. Maybe I was just hungry!
