... how long it took to make these with such precise detail. They are said to be the best Byzantine mosaics outside of Turkey.
They have been preserved really well and are still shimmering and glittering in all their glory.

My favourites were the amazing midnight blue and gold mosaics in the Mausoleo Di Galla Placida. It is a really tiny mausoleum in the grounds of the very fancy Basilica Di San Vitali . The exterior is ...

After I posted the blog last night, we stayed out the front of the hotel and people watched. Old mate from ...

... br> I am a bit puzzled as to why there is sand on this side of the Adriatic and rock on the other. My guess is that it is the current that dumps the sand on this side. Is worth a Google to find out. The sand here is heavy in clay, not as clean as our sand on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.

We snuck out the side door when we went to the beach as we took towels from our room. Hotels tend to get a bit annoyed when one does that, so we also returned ...

... where we indulged in cold sparkling water. We continued along the coast to another village, Marollo. It was hot and we had both run out of water on the bikes - 1.5l for me and 0.75 Annette. We polished off another 1.5l of water with gas and topped up the bike water bottles.

We continued along the beach, same as, umbrella after umbrella. It is a very pretty sight. I spotted my first real ice cream shop - ahh, gelato! There are lots ...
