Catch-Up Day

Not much to tell about Roseburg and our stay here, although it is a nice little town and the back balcony of our room looked out over the Umpqua River, with accompanying ducks and interesting birds of a sort we don't see in Alabama. We needed to wash clothes and gather our wits before driving to Crater Lake, Mt. Shasta, and into California -- so Roseburg is it.

Day 1 Going to Vancouver Island

Today I start my upward trip to Port Angeles where I will catch the ferry yo Vancouver Island to visit my brother nd family, it will take two days. Today (day 1) I started early and prepared. I had to travel about 148 miles along the coast which because of the mountainous region (up/down & twisted turns) will take me twice as long as on a normal highway. I also dressed in my thermal underwear ...

Castle Rock to Canyonville

... in our coach in the parking lot! We had a quick visit told them where we were staying and they said they come down and join us and the other three couples for dinner. We left Roseburg and into Seven Feathers RV Resort. Set up and then we made our way over to the casino for a buffet dinner. There was 10 of us for dinner. Great fun lots of laughs. Played in the casino for awhile and then back to the coach to relax and walk the dogs. We ...

Long drive up

... mountain of Mount Shasta. By that time we were already almost 10 hours on the road, but since it was only about 3:30 at that stage we decided to push on, and make this day a really long trip - while tomorrow will then be much easier. We pushed through to Roseburg in Oregon - 12 hours later we are sitting in a road side inn, exhausted, and glad that tomorrow's trip will be much easier, and shorter too Seattle.

... farmland. One of the joys of riding a motorcycle is the fact that you're much more a part of your environment instead of passing through it in an insulated bubble. The varying smells of forest and field add to the enjoyment of the ride. Soon I'm exiting the freeway at Roseburg, winding my way through town and following a road that parallels a stream to my cousins Larry and Marie who live on the top of a hill outside town. Their ...

Planning and waiting....

... itinerary changes constantly. The thought of actually experiencing the places I have read about seems like a nice daydream..... I am both excited and nervous. I can only aniticipate the experience and cannot wait for the reality of being back in the homeland, a place I have never known but I feel it inside of me somehow. Kelly

Day 9: Bend to Roseburg, Oregon

... saddest one of any major park I've seen. Really small, nothing more than a shop to sell stuff (though the logo and most of the items for sale were on par). Nothing to speak of as far as exhibits, though there are some decent interpretive signs along the drive at the lookouts. Paul has been counting license plates since we left DC and we started today w/ 46. Paul doubted we would complete the 50, thinking Hawai'i to be out of reach. Well, at our 2d ...

Heading to SanFran

We made it to Mick's home about 7 PM.. Mick and I met in Key West about fifteen years ago, we had identical sailboats. I was pulling into a marina in my boat after a 50 mile sail from Islamorada and he caught my lines as I entered the dock. We started talking about our vessels and decided to go to dinner and have been friends since then. He was on the first sailing trip I ever made to Cuba and sadly on that trip the US Coast Guard cut our ...
