Sunny London, England

New York, London, Paris, Munich, everybody talk about Pop Music.... Sorry for the lame intro. I am in sunny London, where it is a little warmer than Paris, but still nobody speaks American. I am staying at small little bed and breakfast type hotel called Morgan House and it is located near Victoria Station in an area of town called Belgravia. It seems like a great place to be located for a few days, and is only running me 46 pounds, which is about 85 dollars, but everything is very expensive ...

London

Feb 9...London, England Today was my second full day in London and once again it was sunny. Perhaps the London fog is just a myth. Since I have not had access to a computer, I have been keeping a written journal, and so now, as I am making my e-entries, I have a chance to edit. So, if this is boring stuff, think how boring the original must have been! I walked to Victoria Station this morning, which is about 10 minutes from my hotel (the Morgan House). The neighborhood around the hotel is pre...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Morgan Hotel London

Great Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I too am astonished at the negative reviews of the Morgan. All I can think is that they must be referring to another Morgan and NOT the one on Bloomsbury Street. This is a wonderful hotel and my first choice when traveling to London. I have NEVER had a bad experience here. If there is one negative it is that the hotel is so popular that unless you can book well in advance you will not get a room. The location is superb, the owners/operators wonderful, and the breakfast is a treat. The negative comments are either about the wrong hotel or from someone that is never happy or expects to have Ritz room at B&B prices. Ignore the negative reports because they simply can not be true. This is the best place to stay in London bar none.

Value for Money

from Spahn21
We don't understand all the controversy over the Morgan Hotel. Some people must think you can stay at the Four Seasons while paying one-tenth the price! We stayed at the Morgan Hotel for three days this summer and found it to be a terrific value in a superb location. Sure, it's like staying at your aunt's place (as opposed to a 5-star hotel) but if you don't have an aunt in London, what's wrong with that - especially for GBP 80 per night for two people, including a full breakfast? Ours was one of the smaller rooms, but it was comfy and clean. As for the people who lost their valuables, why not use the in-room safe?

If you're on the company's expense accpount, by all means stay somewhere fancy - and be prepared to pay the London price for it. But if it's your own money and you're looking for value, stay here. It will be our first choice next time back.

I, too, am baffled

While I realize that everyone's experience at a hotel is somewhat different, I was really surprised when I read the two awful reviews of the Morgan Hotel.

My husband, son, and I stayed there the first time in April, 1999. It was not our first trip to London, so we did have other experiences to base how good or bad our stay at the Morgan was.

Well, we liked it very much, and when I returned to London that same year with my sister we stayed in the same room that I had been in earlier.

It was one of the flats that we stayed in..it has a sitting room, bedroom, a kitchen and 2 bathrooms, one with a sink & tub, the other has the toilet, a teeny shower and a hand basin.

Our trips usually last 2 or 3 weeks so having room to spread out is important.

I have been back to the Morgan in 2000, 2001 and will be there again in about a month.

John, David, and Joy ( the brothers and sister who own and operate the hotel) make me feel right at home. And on the trips where I am traveling alone, I appreciate the sense of securiy I have at the Morgan.

The NYC and Washington reviewers must be referring to another Morgan Hotel

I'm totally mystified by the two reviews that say the Morgan is awful. We stayed here for 10 days in December 2000, and the place became home for me. Wonderful owner/operators (we met both brothers, and their sister, Joy), a comfortable, large room with both a tub and shower, and a great breakfast to start the day. All this for 80 pounds (about $120)a day, in a fantastic Bloomsbury location. I'll be staying there again next summer and can't wait...

A great little hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Morgan Hotel (24 Bloomsbury) is a gem. It's a small hotel located around the corner from the British Museum. It is convenient to the tube (Tottenham Court Road), to an AMEX office, a large cyber cafe, a market, a newsagent, Oxford Street shopping, various eating establishments, and within walking distance to the West End.

The hotel's rooms are small, but each room has ensuite facilities and is very clean. Every morning you get a "sturdy" breakfast to help you get a great start to your day.

I recommend this hotel highly. I've stayed here in 1995, 1997, 2000 and will stay again this fall. As a single female traveler, I feel safe here. One important thing about the hotel: I prefer staying in the main hotel, not in the annex.

Morgan Hotel: Truly Awful

This place is one of the worst hotels in which I have ever stayed. I would not recommend it to anybody.

Horrible!

Avoid this place at all costs. Our stay was absolutely awful. Tiny rooms, unpleasant staff, and that's just the beginning. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Location + Value = :-)

The Morgan Hotel is London's "great value for the money" location. We have stayed two times and will be there a third time in November. The rooms are spacious and quiet (even those facing the busy street) with all the amenities you expect and need if your are not looking for luxury. The staff are friendly and responsive - we had a slight problem with the hot water in our room and it was fixed immediately. The breakfast is huge! You are steps away from the British Museum, Charing Cross Road, and Theatreland. A 24-hour "convenience store" nearby is very helpful and we eat at Wagamama every time! Go, you won't be sorry!

Good clean spacious and cheap

This is a great little family-run hotel. The furniture might be old, but it's very clean and well run by a friendly and efficient family of Londoners. The rooms are very large by London standards and you can rent an entire APARTMENT with 1 and a half baths and kitchen for much less than a tiny room in a more posh hotel. I love it. I've stayed there 4 times. Love the location. Right next to the British Museum, nearby are a Sainsbury grocery, an EasyEverything Internet shop, a tube stop a couple of blocks away... walking distance to the Theater District.

Morgan Hotel, A DELIGHT!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Morgan Hotel is centrally located in London right next to the British Museum. I found it especially convenient being within walking distance of Covent Garden. Busses stop right out front and taxi's can be hailed right around the corner. Located in the artsy Bloomsbury area, antique and art shops abound. The breakfast is served in a cozy dining room decorated with toby mugs and antiques. Toast is served in a proper toast rack. The Morgan is run by amiable brothers John and Dave.
